Re: Chronically low HRV

Thanks, all, for the input. Update: So I injured my back 7 days ago and have been on 4mg/day of methylprednisolone for 6 days. And for the 5 nights since I started taking this anti-inflammatory (glucocorticoid), my sleeping HRV jumped out of its trough of 10-30 (where it had been pretty consistently...

Klotho?

Hi all, I once thought that finding out if you carry the "good" klotho variant was as simple as finding out if you're G;T for the SNP here: https://www.snpedia.com/index.php/Rs9536314. But now it sounds like maybe it's a bit more complicated (i.e., next to impossible for us hoi polloi): ht...

Re: Why Krill Oil Beats Fish Oil

Has anyone found a krill oil supplement that contains more than 80mg of DHA per serving? Even with the improved bioavailability of krill oil, I wonder if the dose is still so low that it doesn't win you much? My goal is to consume 1500-2000mg of DHA on at least a few days each week. Right now I'm hi...

Chronically low HRV

Hi all, For those of you who are into tracking your HRV, I've got a question: How big of a dent does chronic stress and/or having a newborn make on HRV? I know some effect is expected, but how much? At what degree of effect are we like, "Alight, there's probably more going on here"? Any wi...

Re: Sleep

Thank you, everyone, for your kind responses. Lots of interesting perspectives and experiences with this topic! Sooo...it turns out that I DO have sleep apnea, and that's at least a partial answer to my long-standing deep sleep deficits. I have "moderate" apnea, with around 85 apnea and/or...

4/4 mom is showing signs. Now what?

Hi all, My 4/4 mom, 62, is now showing enough signs of memory loss that my stepdad and Mom's best friend are planning to raise their concerns and urge my mom to seek medical attention. I've been talking to my mom for the last 2 years about AD prevention (although not raising concerns about her actua...

Longjack/Tongkat ali

Hi all, Wondering if anyone has experience taking this supplement? I started taking 500mg/day after hearing Andrew Huberman sing its praises as a testosterone-optimization tool. After some sleuthing to look into his claims, I decided to give it a try. As a gym rat who struggles to put on muscle mass...

Re: Sleep

Thank you, both! Those are helpful nuggets of info, and have broadened my perspective on this topic. I think I'm just a bit of a perfectionist and desiring optimization (shooting for the high end of the bell curve for total sleep duration and deep sleep duration). Happy update: I started cutting off...

Re: Sleep

Extra details: I don't have sleep apnea [normal blood oxygen at night, according to FitBit, and have had two take-home sleep tests (2016 and 2020) that also confirmed no apnea]. Granted, I haven't had an overnight in a sleep lab to absolutely confirm. Also, I don't drink alcohol at night and try to ...
