Re: OTC test for Diabetes

I am so glad that I bought the electronic pH monitor. It only cost $15 and it looks like it could be very useful. Great investment! I am not entirely sure how accurate the below url is regarding the link between low pH and cancer, though I will be keeping a close eye on my saliva, urine and possibly...

Re: Genetic Engineering and unknown consequences

mike, I am starting to like this idea of community consent. Scientists often just go out there and do things without any clear notion of how the wider community will react. With this latest development, the scientist did try to make some effort in gauging popular sentiment, though this was more of a...

Re: Genetic Engineering and unknown consequences

mike, we need to help Harvard out! For whatever reason a warning message never reached the Chinese researchers that what they were doing was not entirely well considered. The Harvard idea of CRISPRing sperm to prevent APOE e4 might also deserve further contemplation. Why go to the trouble, expense a...

Re: Genetic Engineering and unknown consequences

Yes, Brian4, this is quite correct. Those with a simple minded "this variant good this variant bad" mentality have no understanding of human genetics. It is more that existing human genetic variation is what gives the opportunity for natural selection and evolution. Even with our current t...

Re: Genetic Engineering and unknown consequences

MarcR, yes I had thought that the Cognitive Singularity was decades away, though now I am not so sure. I thought that CRISPR would be delayed for perhaps decades as endless obstructions were advanced. Yet, this story has me rethinking what is possible. So someone without institutional or financial s...
