IGAP II !!!

I have been worried for some time that everyone was going to call it quits with large AD GWAS. This makes no sense (to me)! It is fairly clear now that a million person GWAS for AD would entirely unlock dementia. Probably thousands of variants would be found and an enormous amount of insight into wh...

Re: Genesis of the 1500 IQ Humanoids

This is a monumental moment for humanity. The below SNPs provide one of the best glimpses into the human mind that we have ever had. What you will notice is that the pluses and the minuses in the betas are almost perfectly balanced out. So there is a massive tug of war going on and the result for mo...

Re: Genesis of the 1500 IQ Humanoids

Human IQ genome unlocked today.
Overwhelmingly profound significance.

Note to self: Begin intensive psychotherapy to try to cope with this.

Human IQ genome Unlocked!!!!! Profound implications!

Most important day in the history of the universe is today. Unlocking human IQ means that 1000 plus people are possible and should be showing up any day. Clearly our entire human reality will soon change. (See the 1500 IQ humans thread for the background.) After being anticipated over the last 8 mon...

circ, this is unfair! You know how my mind works so well that you knew that this topic would magnetically attract me here. It's almost like I'm part of your psychops project. It is like honey for Pooh Bear, or cookies for the Cookie Monster or numbers for Count von Count! {Am I the only one slightly...

Re: Increased Serum Calcium Levels reduce AD? I could do that!

I looked up the 8 SNPs above on a 23andme v3 chip.

rs7481584 was not on the chip though rs3814964 was and is a perfect proxy.
rs17711722 was also not on the chip and there was no proxy for it.

Re: Increased Serum Calcium Levels reduce AD? I could do that!

Stavia, thank you your medical insight. I am not sure though why the authors talk of pursuing this with further research using supplements even when they note the homeostasis aspect of calcium regulation. Those on the forum might be interested in looking up the below calcium SNPs to help determine t...

Re: Increased Serum Calcium Levels reduce AD? I could do that!

JulieG, genetics might finally let us answer some of these tricky questions. We have never been sure what caused what, is something correlated or causal? It all gets hopelessly confusing. Yet, with Mendelian Randomization you have a fairly solid technique that can start to unravel things. If all we ...

Re: Article: There's a Scary Link Between Bad Sleep And The Onset of Alzheimer's

circ, I don't want to brag... well actually I do. Here's a massive massive GWAS that found that insomnia does not appear to be positively related to AD. This seems surprising because I would have thought that beta amyloid would tend to build up in those with insomnia. https://www.biorxiv.org/content...

Increased Serum Calcium Levels reduce AD? I could do that!

"IVW analysis showed that a genetically increased serum calcium level (per 1 standard deviation (SD) increase 0.5-mg/dL) was significantly associated with a reduced AD risk (OR=0.56, 95% CI: 0.34-0.94, P=5.00E-03). " Seems like a fairly large effect. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/early/2...
