Re: Association of Lifestyle and Genetic Risk With Incidence of Dementia

Hi Brian, I just read this! It's encouraging. I simple experimental design with a large sample size showing a reduction in risk for E4s following basic healthy lifestyles. That's great. Yes, the healthy lifestyle is pretty basic. And it did not get E4 risk down all the way to E3 or E2 risk levels. B...

Re: From keto eating to fasting, a common path?

Hi Julie. Thanks. This evolution of my lifestyle plan seems natural. I think the fasting is helpful. And with exercise it should in theory get me some BHB, like you said. I feel like I was really motivated, in part by the quiet terror of it all, early on. But now I'm reviewing my decisions based on ...

From keto eating to fasting, a common path?

Hi everyone. Here's a question about the benefits of a keto-type diet vs. fasting. I'm love to get your thoughts so I can adjust my plan. I did a keto-flex type diet in most of 2017-2019 and fasted from 7:00pm to 11:00am each day. My net carbs were low, 30-40 grams per day max. Lost a lot of weight,...

Re: New here, devastated 4/4, family history of AD

THIS is great advice: :) Tell your lovely future spouse about this news--and don't be surprised if it takes him a while to grasp how much of a rollercoaster you are on. For people MY AGE (60-75) with ApoE 4/4, the likelihood that we will make it to 85 with no mild cognitive impairment or dementia is...

Re: Zero carb diet will help prevent Alzheimer’s

This is interesting to think about. But I keep coming back to the here and now. If we had a reliable way to test our status once in a while we could figure out pretty easily which diet works best for each one of us. The "best" diet is probably different for each person, and probably change...

Re: New Member from Hamburg, Germany

Hi pinkgothic. I'm just an occasional contributor here but I wanted to say that I'm very glad that fixing the B12 deficiency seems to have helped so much. I'm sure those symptoms were scary! Did your doctors just see your levels were low and add the supplement, or did they figure out what might have...

Re: Zero carb diet will help prevent Alzheimer’s

It's fascinating to think about the evolution of human diets. I don't know how far back we need to go to find the clues we are looking for - maybe 5-14 million years ago for hominids or just 200,000 years ago for humans in Africa. But in any case from what I understand, humans have long been omnivor...

Sulforaphane, it's protection of the CNS against disease and aging

For those interested, or those who are having trouble falling asleep. ;) Two new reviews on sulforaphane (SFR) from broccoli as a neuro-protective agent. This one has some odd typos, but authors are presumably not native English speakers and this may be an early pre-print version I have. Geroscience...

Re: Zero carb diet will help prevent Alzheimer’s

Wow TeresaB. That was an epic post, full of information. :) Thanks.

One day we will have a way to measure our status and track progress, and each one of us can try different diets and see what works best for us.
