Re: How to get Triglycerides down

Thanks. I am trying to have more of a plant based diet, and find keto difficult with such. I have done keto diets before but I've determined my body feels best with higher complex carbs. Thanks for the suggestion of Spirulina. I will try that and see what happens. Possibly add fish oil later. I try ...

How to get Triglycerides down

I am frustrated with my high Triglycerides. I am statin intolerant but I managed to bring my LDL down from 154 to 103 with Zetia. My HDL is fine at 57. But my Triglycerides were 157 yesterday morning after fasting 14 hours and swimming 3000 meters. I am small (5'5" 120 pounds), athletic, and ha...

Re: positive or negative experiences with Ashwaganda

I took Ashwagandha and it was great. I slept well and I felt relaxed all day. However, after about a month it kept me awake all night. I trialed it several times since with a similar effect. I was relaxed, but awake. I'm afraid to take it earlier in the day.

Re: Article on extended family raising risk

I appreciate the encouraging words. My parents and grandmother had excellent life-style habits. Mom was 84 when she died. Dad is 83 and in long-term care for his dementia. My grandmother also died at 84 for Alzheimer's. Interestingly, I don't have the APOE4 gene though my brother and father both hav...

Re: Article on extended family raising risk

Depressing study for me. Just lost my mom to Alzheimer's last week. Father has Alzheimer's, as did my grandmother and my only uncle and aunt. Looking for some hope in all this.

Re: Sleep!

I think we are genetic twins. I am a fast metabolizer as well. I'm just not ready to give up my 4 AM fantastic feeling yet. But, I could use the extra sleep.....

Re: Sleep!

I am not sure that the short sleeping has actually had any adverse health effects, but it is socially unacceptable since I also generally fall asleep too early (extreme "lark" when others are "owls"). What has helped is realizing this syndrome is not my fault but a probable undi...

Re: Simvastatin and the ApoE4 Allele

cwicker, I applaud your caution given such a high risk of myopathy. :(. It's not really caution, I just can't take them and walk across the parking lot. When I tried one for example (Crestor 5 mg/day) I remember sitting in my car and wondering how I was going to walk to the store, much less exercis...

Re: Simvastatin and the ApoE4 Allele

I'm a fast metabolizer and yes, I do drink coffee. But I don't think that was my quote as elevated ALT is not a problem for me. It's the muscle pain and my genetics say I am at a 17x's increased risk for statin myopathy.

Re: Simvastatin and the ApoE4 Allele

The dose sounds too low to be therapeutic. I found that the muscle pain varied not just with the low dose, but also a different statin. ..Have you tried other statins? But it is therapeutic, or at least it reduces my LDL by 30%. Yes, I have tried many other statins. And yes, I have tried CoQ10. It ...
