Re: Bacterial DNA promotes Tau aggregation

Great article! Maybe this ties into the observation of Alzheimer’s care givers and nurses that UTIs (Urinary Tract Infections) cause an increase of dementia/Alzheimer’s symptoms. One of the current theories is that when ApoE4 breaks down it’s degradation products are “toxic” in the sense that they s...

Re: Is Malaria Protective For Alzheimer’s In ApoE 4s

Interesting thought. I’m just one 4/4 data point but based on my experience, I’m guessing it would NOT be protective. I didn’t have malaria, but rather a very similar illness called Babesia duncani that went undiagnosed for 15 years. I was very, very sick and ultimately developed cognitive decline....

Is Malaria Protective For Alzheimer’s In ApoE 4s

The Tsimane tribe in South America has low rates of Alzheimer’s in ApoE4’s who are infected with parasites. The Nigerian’s of Ibdan also have a relatively low rate af Alzheimer’s in ApoE4’s. Most research has focused on food and diet as we in the west are fixated on food and diet. Malaria infection ...

Re: Blood Pressure Treatment Drastically Reduces Alzheimer’s Incidence

They left out Statin users thereby confounding the population pool they sampled from. This results in a sampling bias as the high cholesterol portion that has high cardiovascular risk would be left out. The entire study screened out people with existing diabetes and heart disease, so the statin use...

Re: Blood Pressure Treatment Drastically Reduces Alzheimer’s Incidence

https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/pdf/10.1161/01.CIR.86.3.1046 Here is a paper from a very large pre-statin population 350,000 people. Look at page 5 of 15 it shows the risk ratios for all cause , CHD and other diseases. For men all cause mortality and CHD was positively correlated with cholesterol le...

Re: Blood Pressure Treatment Drastically Reduces Alzheimer’s Incidence

I believe the studies were MRFIT, The Gas Company Employee one and others if my ApoE4 memory is working tonight. I will look it up in the AM. Men were more profoundly affected. Women did not see as much of an effect. Again, I agree that total Cholesterol is not a good choice as ratios are a better w...

Re: Blood Pressure Treatment Drastically Reduces Alzheimer’s Incidence

all things equal a lower LDL equates to a lower CHD-CVD risk. The evidence suggests otherwise. This 8-year study of 100,000+ people aged 50+ without preexisting diabetes or heart disease is the only high-powered study I have seen that focuses on the lipids of healthy older people. I am skeptical of...

Re: Blood Pressure Treatment Drastically Reduces Alzheimer’s Incidence

To answer your first question it’s both but in the case of Mendelian Randomization specifically the answer is just those with the SNP’s that lower it. If those lowering SNP’s and SNP’s for a higher LDL show positive correlation in a very large sample size with multiple independent SNP’s it illustrat...

Re: Bredesen and de la Torre (and G-L) divergence

I think the OP makes Bredesen and De La Torre out to be “either-or “options. One comes at it from a theoretical research point of view and the other is interested in taking the research knowledge we have and applying it to practical ways to treat and prevent Alzheimer’s. I really think De La Torre h...
