Re: Bredesen Protocol and a 'break' off the supplements
Thanks for this LanceS, very interesting. I’ve just been reading something about this on the IFLScience feed. A review of research on intermittent fasting, where one the variable was supplementing with antioxidants, (vitamins C and E) found this: “One somewhat surprising finding is that when partici...

Re: Bredesen Protocol and a 'break' off the supplements
Just in case my newbie message was lost amongst the other messages. Just looking for advice from any members following Bredesens protocol. Is it advised to take the supplements every day forever? Is it advisable to take a break? Do others on the protocol take a break from time to time? Thanks in adv...

Bredesen Protocol and a 'break' off the supplements
I have been following a version of Bredesen protocol for about 3 months now. Is there any scientific reason why I should or shouldn’t have one day a week off all the supplements? Or a break from the supplements from time to time? Would one day off a week or a month off every year make the protocol m...

Re: Quercetin
I've been unknowingly consuming high quantities of quercetin for around 5 years, and I'm not noticing any of these adverse effects. Daily: 6 to 10 cups high quality Chinese white leaf tea and fresh dill, cilantro, kale, watercress. Weekly many of the other vegetables that are high in quercetin. My H...

Re: fo ti - polygonum multiflorum - He Shou Wu
From this recent paper, Sept 2014, n=237 http://journal.frontiersin.org/article/10.3389/fnagi.2014.00236/full This is an interesting conclusion in regards to BDNF, (rs6265) "Third, the other polymorphism (BDNF) was not statisti- cally associated with the targeted outcomes. In general, BDNF- cog...

Re: Quercetin
Thanks Juliegee! Another benefit; quercetin is a natural COMT, catechol-O-methyltransferase, inhibitor. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22452782, and a few other papers). Thanks, I have been investigating the COMT G/G and APO e4 increased dementia risk and looking for a natural catechol-O-methyl...

Re: COMT (Val/Val) and SAMe supplementation
Apologies, this is off topic. Maybe interesting for us with both e4, COMT Val/Val and worried about dementia as there is some research that shows a link: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24575113 and http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22890094 With regards to SAMe supplements and the COMT Val158Me...

COMT (Val/Val) and SAMe supplementation
I’ve been thinking about the COMT gene MET158VAL polymorphism and SAMe supplements. I understand that if one has the genotype, Val/Val (G/G) then this means that the enzyme catechol-o-methyl transferase is highly active in the body and brain and that this enzyme methylates many compounds, making the...
