One more statistic question
Are there any statistics that estimate what percentage of total APOE3/4 and 4/4 carriers never go on to develop Alzheimer's by age group?

Re: Understanding your risk of Alzheimer's, including the ApoE4 allele
Thanks Susan, this is so helpful! From the Wiki link- "Here's some background on the idea of modifiable risk. According to the Lancet Journal (2017): Alzheimer's includes about 65% non-modifiable risk (meaning genetic) including only 7% contributed by the ApoE4 allele, so about 58% of your AD ...

Greebles test, anyone?
I actually had stepped away from the Forum for a while, but I came back to post this regarding a test comparing those considered at risk based on family history with those with no family history as the control group. It basically consisted of looking at four images which included faces, real world o...

Re: Questions re: statistics and testing accuracy
I just read the rest of your responses and I am very thankful to all of you for helping me see things more clearly. You are all so helpful! I did speak with a genetics counselor supplied by the lab when I first learned of my status and I have to say that it was a waste of time. The usual, "you'...

Re: Questions re: statistics and testing accuracy
after ten years I still harbor much anger towards my former doctor for ordering this test without my knowledge (or his other patients'). Do I have a case to report him to the state medical board for unethical practices? If so, is there a statute of limitations? Della, your anger is understandable. ...

Re: Questions re: statistics and testing accuracy
I thank you for your replies; I will say that these statistics have my head spinning. Circular, I also was tested by HDL and my experience was very similar to yours. Like you, I gave my doctor hell and demanded that the test results be taken out of my file, which fell on deaf ears. I'd just like to ...

Questions re: statistics and testing accuracy
Like the rest of you, I've read a ton of information on the Internet regarding APOE and Alzheimer's disease, with much of it being a bit too technical for me to fully grasp. One issue I've found that drives me crazy is the disparity in numbers, for example, one article states APOE4 appears in 10-15%...

Re: I see I am definitely in the minority on this forum
Della, there is quite a bit of cancer in my family as well...I understand and share your concerns. So glad to hear that your siblings are doing well now, that is great news! Wishing you the best for the New Year and looking forward to hearing how you're doing. Thank you, Lucy, for your good wishes....

Re: I see I am definitely in the minority on this forum
Aaah.....now I understand, thank you, Searcher. It didn't occur to me that the other 58% was due to genes other than APOE, as that is the only gene regarding risk that I've found in literature geared towards the general population. This board has been invaluable in helping me to understand so much m...

Re: I see I am definitely in the minority on this forum
Thank you, Searcher, but I do need your help in totally understanding this graph (I have never been proficient at reading graphs and charts). I see the 7% reduction in risk if the APOE4 allele is removed. But at the bottom it says that 65% of risk factors are non modifiable, namely, the APOE gene. W...
