Re: Keto, blood surgar, cholesterol, protein--how to balance?

I'm not promoting a higher protein intake or protein supplement, however, these guys make a decent product (although, it's out of stock): https://www.nutrabio.com/product/OPP/ a serving comes with 2 grams of carbohydrates, one of which is fiber. Vegan protein is a bit easier to handle with enzymes. ...

Re: There Is No Best Diet

...wait what? A high-fat muffin? Sure, just google "keto muffin" It's still not quite clear to me if these were keto-friendly muffins, or muffins with additional fat (which might require more insulin to attenuate the glucose spike.) If these were ketogenic foods, the blood sugar testing i...

Re: Keto, blood surgar, cholesterol, protein--how to balance?

I came across this study published last week in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Effects of red meat, white meat, and nonmeat protein sources on atherogenic lipoprotein measures in the context of low compared with high saturated fat intake: a randomized controlled trial. https://medicalxpress...

Re: Keto, blood surgar, cholesterol, protein--how to balance?

Welcome to the forum! Adding a bit more seafood/shellfish or lean protein to your diet would increase the amino acid intake without adding much in the way of SFA or cholesterol (if you are in fact, a hyper-responder to these.) Alternatively, if you're merely looking to add protein to a keto diet, so...

Food reactivity panel formulated diet

I was watching this podcast today with a true biohacker's biohacker. I thought you all might get a kick out of this guy's n=1 approach. Every 90 days, he runs a food reactivity test then formulates his diet accordingly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWAe_mdTslc#t=37m For some background info, Brya...

Re: There Is No Best Diet

Three kinds of muffins were on the menu: a high-fat, low-sugar muffin ...wait what? A high-fat muffin? If the study was looking to determine which diet was the "best diet" based on postprandial glucose readings, then an omnivorous ketogenic diet would produce similar results across the en...

Re: Proof that MCT causes insulin resistance?

FWIW, here's my LDL particle size while eating a very high amount of MCT oil: Small LDL-P: <90 (optimal) LDL Size: 21.7 - Large Pattern A (optimal) LP-IR Score: <25 HDL-C: 92 mg/dL While on a more traditional keto diet, my lipids look like: apoB: 72 mg/dL apoA1: 192 mg/dL Triglycerides: 65 mg/dL LDL...

Re: On the keto diet? Ditch the cheat day

FWIW, Mark Sisson's skepticism on the study from the OP https://www.marksdailyapple.com/keto-cheating/ I like his concluding suggestions, although the criticisms to the study aren't all that reassuring. Is 75g of net carbohydrates from an OGTT really all that unrealistic for a "cheat" mea...

Re: On the keto diet? Ditch the cheat day

You know, recently I heard Mercola essentially say carb days are recommended on a keto diet: https://blog.bulletproof.com/part-2-dr-joseph-mercola-588/ Chronic keto is not in your best interest, “Your body needs carbohydrates on a regular basis,” says Dr. Mercola. I've found a substantially high ca...
