Re: Association of Lifestyle and Genetic Risk With Incidence of Dementia

Somehow it surprised me how low the *overall* incidence of dementia was in the study. There were 196,383 people, all starting over age 60 (average age ~64). They were followed for 8 years. During that entire 8 years, only 1,769 people developed dementia. That's only 0.9%. So over 8 full years, only ...

Re: Dr. Rhonda: Get some DHA in phospholipid form

Thats about 30 to 50% of calories from protein looking across the scale from small women to larger men. 180 grams of protein a day. Far more than is necessary for say a 70kg woman. Maybe necessary for a very active and muscular 90kg man. I personally wouldnt eat that amount of animal protein. Sent ...

Re: Dr. Rhonda: Get some DHA in phospholipid form

Yip RJones, the trouble is if you increase your protein to that extent you need to consider Mtor activation. Biochemistry is hideously complex. A change in one direction could lead to multiple consequences. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk 250 grams of animal products -- most of them have maybe...

Re: Dr. Rhonda: Get some DHA in phospholipid form

Stavia: "Plasmalogens are a special form of a phospholipid with a different joining bond to what is found in ordinary phospholipids such as phosphaditylcholine. Plasmalogens can have DHA as one of their fatty acids. " Thank you, Stavia! I checked out the Nordic Naturals "phospholipids...

Re: Dr. Rhonda: Get some DHA in phospholipid form

Here's a "for dummies" question. Does anyone know if Dr. Rhonda's "DHA in phospholipid form" is related to the "plasmalogens" discussed on another thread? Are they the same thing? Related? Totally different?

Re: A blood exchange protocol significantly slows rate of decline in moderate AD patients

The book "Dumping Iron" gives a nice review of the evidence that giving blood is beneficial. Its underlying viewpoint is that it's the donation of the red blood cells, rather than the plasma, that yields the benefit. It seems like donating whole blood is a good bet either way. http://rogue...

Re: Dr. Rhonda: Get some DHA in phospholipid form

Very helpful - thanks! My understanding - probably too simplified - was that triglycerides and phospholipids were usually broken down to free fatty acids to cross the gut lining, then sometimes reformed for packaging into chylomicrons for circulation on the other side. ! Link below provides a summa...

Re: Disturbing news about E4 and HSV1

I think that factor of 12 must be too high. If 66% of the heterozygous 3/4 population had the virus, and if the virus boosted their risk by a factor 12, then in aggregate heterozygous 3/4 population would have their risk boosted by a factor of at least around 8, even if the remaining 33% of them who...

Re: Drinking Silica water prevents Alzheimer's in those with the APOE-E4 gene

Thanks Laurie -- Below is the link to the worldlifeexpectancy.com listings of Alzheimer's dementia by country. However, I remain skeptical about the reliability. The table implies for example that Alzheimer's is 164 times more prevalent in Finland than in Singapore. One would think that would be wid...

Re: Drinking Silica water prevents Alzheimer's in those with the APOE-E4 gene

The article says that Alzheimer's deaths per 100,000 is about 10 times lower in Japan than in the US. Is that widely accepted? It just doesn't seem plausible to me. The paper below reports that Japan has 1.1 million cases of dementia, and the US has 2.9 million. The US has about 3 times the populati...
