Re: Whiskey/brandy for longevity?

Hi Jesper: Interesting question! My APOE3/4 Mother will soon be approaching 87 and has consumed brandy her entire adult life. When I stayed with my parents years ago, I noticed it was a pre-dinner cocktail every night. She might not drink as much any more, but when we give her a bottle of brandy for...

Re: Shock news from 23and me.

Hi Hairy Fairy! Looking at the brighter side of life...always remember that genetics are not destiny. My soon to be 87 year old Mother is a 3/4 and per 23andMe [like yourself] she has genetic risks for AD, Macular Degeneration, and Celiac Disease, plus a 25% lifetime risk of Type 2 Diabetes. As of t...

Re: Morning mineral cocktail?

Fun thread...I love hearing what everyone is doing! I start my day out with grass-fed kefir and supplements. In the evening, once a week or more, I do almond milk, greens, avocado, a couple pieces of frozen banana, blueberries, and collagen protein. I might mix it up now using some of these great id...

Re: The ADA gene?

Hi Alexis: I'm also no expert on adenosine, but I did remember seeing a podcast by Dr. Chris Masterjohn discussing the ADA gene and coffee consumption. For reference, Dr. Masterjohn has one APOe4 allele (he did not disclose what the non-APOe4 allele was). Here's the link -- https://chrismasterjohnph...

Re: Alzheimer's and "Death with Dignity"

Small world, CarrieS and NF52...my Norwegian ancestors also had Minnesota roots. Norway to Minnesota as well. Some did move on to Yakima, Washington. Love those lingonberries...but I could never do lutefiske. My Mother swears that eating lutefiske once a year has kept her going. We'll see how I fare...

Re: Our origins

Genetic origins have always interested me...and it is something that I consider in creating my personalized diet, supplement, and exercise protocol. My ancestral background is predominantly Scandinavian -- my Mother is 100% Norwegian and my Father was 50% Swedish. Through a combination of SNP diving...

Re: Hormone Replacement Therapy E4 Women

Lions and tigers and bears...oh my! I wouldn't have been able to focus either :o) As far as hormone replacement therapy for myself, a 3/4 post-menopausal woman, I crossed that bridge several years ago and decided not to use HRT at that time. FYI - I had a natural menopause after 44 years of menses a...

Re: Hello

Hi Jan & Catherine! Thanks for the warm welcome! I'll add the primer to my "must read" list. Most of the healthy lifestyle steps I've taken over the years were driven by a strong family history of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes on my paternal side, none on my maternal side. Type 1 diabetic...
