Re: APOE mismatch Ancestry vs 23andMe

I am not an expert but my understanding is that Ancestry doesn't test for ApoE4, so you have to go elsewhere like 23andMe.

Re: APOE mismatch Ancestry vs 23andMe

I had the exact same experience with Ancestry - Promethease warned that Ancestry always reports 429358 as T;T. I just received my results back from 23andMe last week and am ApoE 4/4. With a lot of family members with Alzheimers I am guessing that it is correct, and it is also what I was expecting. B...

Re: 23 and Me Kit Information

Hi NF52, Thank you for all of that information. I have noticed that results are from a lot of different time periods, so it's confusing researching online when genetics isn't your field. What you have said helps a lot. It is good to see that the odds of developing dementia aren't as great as what th...

Re: 23 and Me Kit Information

Hi notmygenes56, Thank you for your reply. The reference that you sent was excellent. Yes, it will be very helpful. This is what I have found on several sites: •PMID 17192785] The researchers found that on testing DNA samples from 1,086 well-characterized Alzheimer's disease cases, a single SNP (rs4...

23 and Me Kit Information

Hi, I just purchased the 23 and Me genealogy version of their kit hoping to use the raw DNA from there with Promethease. I did the same thing with Ancestry, but they don't test for APOe4. Just wondering if this basic kit will work in the same way, or if I need to get the Health version? My Ancestry ...

Re: I've had a reversal of cognitive decline...and want to share what I've learned...

What an inspiring story! Truly hopeful. Responding to a couple of the later posts - I just want to share something that happened to me about 5 years re: brain fog. I was suffering through regular bouts of waking up in the night (usually around 3 am for 2 hours). A friend of mine told me to try takin...

Re: New member with questions

Thank you for the positive and kind words. Yes, just looking to get educated right now about prevention through healthy lifestyle. Great that there is hope out there and not just the usual recommendation to do crosswords. I enjoy brain activities, but they just aren't my thing...I even bought a book...

Re: New member with questions

Thanks to both of you for your encouraging replies. Yes, I am going to search through this site over the next few days and try to learn more. There is so much information on here, but that is great. I don't know much but the basics re: genetics so I have had to work through things and try to figure ...

New member with questions

Hi Everyone, I am posting this again as I think I submitted it to the wrong section. My husband and I used Ancestry DNA to find out about our ethnic background last year. I bought Dr Bredesen's book in January and learned about using that raw dna and having it analyzed online. Through that I found o...

Hi Everyone, My husband and I used Ancestry DNA to find out about our ethnic background last year. I bought Dr Bredesen's book in January and learned about using that raw dna and having it analyzed online. Through that I found out that I have several genes that could put me at risk for late-onset AD...
