testosterone
I know a lady who was taking testosterone to improve her libido. It did help her in that regard but one of the side effects was facial hair!

diet & Lp(a)
Am now moving Monday's mock meats to #ThiolThursdays and going with #MonoFatMonday instead where alMONd butter and omega 7 rich macadamia nuts will be eaten. That wiki page says testosterone lowers Lp(a). Got my testosterone level checked for the first time and it came back normal. Soy doesn't seem ...

diet & Lp(a)
Thx4TheGenes, i haven't read the Torelli book. It is quoted in the wikipedia article on Lp(a). From the snips i've seen, it does still seem relevant concerning heart disease risk factors. Maybe i have the genetics that allow diet changes to modify my Lp(a) levels? Sounds like you eat well. The wiki ...

Re: The Homocysteine/AD connection
One of our vegan superhero doctors, Michael Greger tells us to get the Hcy to below 10 which i've just done, so i feel pretty good about that. As a 3-4, i don't feel as much urgency as a 4-4 does to get it further down, and maybe a vegan at 9.4 is good enough? If i feel the need to do more, i can ma...

diet & Lp(a)
My experience with Lp(a) is that it jumped into a higher risk category when i switched to a lower fat, higher protein diet (20% of calories each) in 2015. This year on a higher fat, lower protein diet (35% fat 10% protein), Lp(a) moved back into the optimal range (by Quest Lab standards) at 62, alth...

methionine, folate, B12
Thought my 11.5 Hcy reading while eating 20% protein 20% fat in 2015 would go down to under 10 when returning to a 10% protein 35% fat diet in 2016 (since less protein = less methionine) but Hcy actually increased to 12.3. Blood B12 reading was high both years while folate was high in 2015 and in th...

portion control
"Kuten gwa", meaning "little portion" is another Japanese expression that goes with the 8/10ths full concept. The Japanese man on record as the human male who has lived the longest (116+ years) credited little portions as the key. It does strike me as important, moreso if you are...

insulin
Stavia, i came across that study while skimming through the book "The Okinawa Diet Plan". The Okinawans are known for their longevity. Their saying "hara hachi bu" (meaning "eat until you are 8/10ths full") is something that does make sense to me. While the science does...

grazing
The study at http://gg.gg/meal-freq compared a group eating 3 meals daily with a group eating 17 snacks daily. The latter group showed a drop in serum insulin levels.Juliegee wrote:Have you checked fasting insulin yet? I worry that grazing will elevate that number rendering you more susceptible to IR.
