Re: Getting an insurance covered baseline when you're not symptomatic (?)

Hi Circular, Have you had any luck with getting your insurance to pay for baseline testing? Because of a freak accident early this year, I ended up getting both a brain MRI and a CT scan. The concern they were checking for wasn't present (whew!), but the brain MRI results in particularly were very i...

Validated Cognitive Test (for purposes of establishing baseline)?

Hi all, Does anyone have a suggestion for a cognitive test/evaluation that I could do to establish my baseline? I would rather not have the results appear in my official medical records, so I prefer something I can either do myself or through private pay with an alternative medical provider. There a...

Re: Anxiety!

I am struggling more and more with anxiety. Going to throw out a few ideas from Ben Lynch's book Dirty Genes . You might have a slow COMT, which would slow the clearance of neurotransmitters, leaving you on the wired/anxious side. For slow COMT, are you more of a workaholic, but then eventually cra...

Re: Anxiety!

Wondering, The effects can be subtle. A friend tried it after not getting other stuff to work. She said she really didn't notice much, until at the end of her shift, she realized she had nor had any anxiety attacks the whole day... It sounded huge for her. Well need to see how it works over time. I...

Re: Anxiety!

If you are taking a synthetic folate vitamin, either by itself or in a B complex, it can contribute to anxiety. Hmm. I didn't know that. I do take Folate, 400 mcg of Metafolin L-5-MTHF with my morning supplements. Do you know if this is the type associated with anxiety? I'll look it up. Thanks for ...

Re: Anxiety!

Are you exercising close to bedtime? That can cause issues. Also don't know where you live, but CBD oil is often helpful with anxiety. It comes from Cannabis, but does not have any mind-altering effects. It is not legal in many states/countries even so... Hi Mike, Exercise is typically morning or e...

Re: Anxiety!

Perhaps Wondering is talking about benzodiazepine drugs. Other options for anxiety are mediation and/or herbal adaptogens like ashwaghanda. There's a great wiki section on stress . You can find out more about ashwaghanda in a topic discussion here . Yes, it's that family of drugs I was referring to...

Anxiety!

I am struggling more and more with anxiety. In particular, I wake up after only a few hours of sleep, and cannot calm down enough to fall back to sleep. I am averaging way less sleep than would be good for me, especially given the priority of Alzheimer's prevention. Although I can always find someth...

Re: Sleep!

Very intuitive and insightful posts, Wondering and Martha. I definitely think that emotional work contributes to better sleep. Even crying is an excellent destressor. I’m a work-in-progress with my meditation, but when I’m diligent, my sleep is much better. Lots of love to you (((Wondering))) as yo...

Re: just got back 23andme's for myself and my kids.

Welcome! All that news all at once - it's a lot to digest! It's great that you are already following most of the lifestyle recommendations for reducing Alzheimer's risk. You're definitely a step ahead on that score! The one suggestion I would make is to have your son avoid sports with a high risk of...
