Re: animal protein

This is a direct quote from the Mastering Diabetes PDF, above. When eating a ketogenic diet, you are told to avoid carbohydrate-rich foods like fruits, starchy vegetables, legumes, and whole grains, and instead eat larger quantities of meat, dairy, leafy greens, non-starchy vegetables, nuts, seeds, ...

Re: animal protein

I did look at the MasteringDiabetes link above claiming fat causes insulin resistance. It’s primary proof is that ketogenic rats fail an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Well, when the pancreas has been accustomed to not having to full-bore dump insulin as soon as it sees a little glucose, it’s n...

Re: animal protein

I'll look at the studies. But, a quick peek showed that they took people on the standard american diet and put them on a low-fat vegan diet. Of course, that will show dramatic improvement. Even the proponents of carnivore will agree that a well-formulated vegan diet is significantly better than the ...

Re: animal protein

Show me a clinical study that backs that claim up.

And, not an epidemiology study.

Whoever wrote that needs to go back and study basic human biology.

https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/07315724.2016.1161566 Observational studies are not useful for anything more than determining a hypotheses. And, that hypotheses is not useful for much of anything unless it is tested in a rigorous, controlled fashion. Alzheimer's disease is primarily ca...

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin

Can't do it--I'm a widow. Even when I had a husband I wouldn't do this, but this forum isn't the place for that discussion ;) . The point was twofold: - an easy way to let your doctor know you view her/him as an advisor not an authority - an easy way to not have a conflict with him/her then-and-the...

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin

Yeah, I know, but easier said than done. I plan what I'm going to say in my head and then when the time comes I chicken out. Do what my wife does ... she tells her doctor "I'll take this information and discuss it with my husband before making any decisions." Then, if you want to change d...

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin

I started low carb in 2009 (age 47). I had a calcium scan in 2012 (age 50) ... result was zero. I had another calcium scan in 2017 (age 55) ... result was zero. I paid $100 each since insurance didn't cover it. Money well spent, IMHO. I will get another one in 2022 ... hopefully it will be a zero (o...

Nonsense.

Your doctor is your employee ... not your boss.

You pay him for his advice.

You don't have to follow it.

If your doctor acts like he/she has authority over you and you must follow his instructions ... run to a new doctor.

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin

Get a coronary calcium scan. If it shows you have heart disease, then consider taking a statin. If it shows low risk, avoid the statin like the plague. Lowering cholesterol increases all-cause mortality. https://forums.apoe4.info/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6274&p=68450&hilit=ldl#p68450 https://...
