Re: Howdy - Just getting started

The fasting part is so interesting to me. Back when I regularly ate whole grain cereal and milk (Wheat Chex or Shredded Wheat) for breakfast, I'd crash about 10:30 am and be desperate to eat anything and everything. Now that I am lowish carb, waiting until noon or 1 for my first meal is a non-issue...

Re: Coffee?

How many of you are Coffee drinkers? I wonder not a big fan of hot drinks any other suggestions to get the benefits of coffee consumption? Thanks, Friends. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321406.php I love coffee. I actually switched to decaf so I can drink more. :D I'd think some form of...

Re: Help understanding my lipid profile and statin choices?

SoCalGuy, I was teaching myself the various lipid components and studying the cholesterol medications and came to understand that my TC and my LDL are pretty good, but HDL and TG are not. As you pointed out, fibrates are good at raising HDL and lowering TG, and I will bring that up with the doc. An...

Re: Help understanding my lipid profile and statin choices?

I’m looking for authoritative documentation of Dr. Bredesen’s advice not to lower total cholesterol below 150. I’ve read the wiki entry on lipids several times. I need evidence for my cardiologist. I’m 69 year old male, APOE 4/4, controlled hypertension, controlled T2D (H1Bac always 5.7), eating lo...

Re: San Diego Meet Up

I'd be interested in participating. I just finished a two month test diet and am back on the Gundry diet so a keto lunch or some form of physical activity sounds good to me! We are resurrecting the SoCal MeetUp, SoCalGuy! Thanks for the heads up floramaria! My March is looking pretty crazy right no...

Re: Cooking oils at home and on the road (restaurants)?

I use EVOO on salads where it obviously isn't heated at all. This is probably where I get like 80% of my EVOO consumption. When cooking with EVOO I never heat higher than medium heat and not for long. I tend to use EVOO when warming up beans. I will also use EVOO when making eggs for breakfast; I ea...

Re: Dr. Steven Gundry with diet recommendations for ApoE4

A top notch heart surgeon actually spends THREE minutes discussing diet recommendations for E4s. THREE minutes, an eternity in E4 land!!! We usually get a sentence. A must listen. The E4 info starts at the 30 min. mark although the entire podcast was fascinating and sets a contextual background: ht...

Re: Deep Sleep Linked to Early Alzheimer's Signs Non-REM slow wave activity tied to tau pathology

An interesting article - not the length of sleep, but rather the quality is important. https://www.medpagetoday.com/neurology/alzheimersdisease/77361?_ga=2.159723133.1504444433.1549388267-714345506.1546537389 Wow, interesting. My Fitbit data, for what it's worth is reassuring. I'll try to post scre...

Re: Vitamin A protects cognition in E4 carriers

It took a while but I was able to get my Vitamin A tested. It turns out I am fine. According to LabCorp <20ug/dL is considered low and my current amount is 43.7 ug/dL. I do eat a lot of sweet potatoes so I guess there's a chance I do convert poorly and I get enough beta carotene to keep my A levels...

Re: Olive Oil Brands

I recently switched from Amphora Nueva to Costco's Kirland brand as a trial, based on Kirland being much cheaper (even after our discount) and at the top of ConsumerLab's report for polyphenols and oleic acid. I was a bit concerned it might not be as fresh as Amphora, but I decided to give it a try...
