Re: Ketone Diarrhea a Follow Up

I also lost quite a bit of weight on the ketone diet, but I don't recommend losing weight in such an unhealthy manner. I was obviously having electrolyte problems, given the muscle cramps, dehydration and, turns out, bowel inflammation. I had to make emergency pit stops on the way to work at my kid'...

Re: 'Strongest Evidence Yet' Links Anticholinergic Drugs, Dementia

So scary. The results of a Kaiser-Permanente study linking Alzheimers and anticholinergics last year got me off amytriptyline for migraines pronto. Also, my mother who's now in moderate dementia abused benzodiazapines for years, mostly Ambien. Lots of older people have trouble sleeping and a few yea...

Re: Dutch Woman With Dementia Euthanized Against Her Will. The Doctor Was Just Cleared Of Wrongdoing.

I'm very interested in setting up an advanced direction for assisted suicide at the level of moderate dementia. And I don't want to lay assisted suicide on my husband or kids, for psychological and legal reasons. My husband and I have discussed the issue and he agrees. I'm hoping Australian law will...

Ketone Diarrhea a Follow Up

A brief recap - I attempted an animal based ketogenic diet, primarily to treat migraines but figured the ketones might help combat my APOE4 status. Shortly into my diet, I developed diarrhea which persisted despite several interventions (fiber, ox bile, digestive enzymes). I've just completed a mass...

Re: List of dairy that's non-inflammatory

I'm having no luck extracting evidence based references for a proinflammatory effect from dairy or a leaky gut effect. The only references I can find in PubMed seem to refute both assertions. Does anybody have any peer reviewed references or good key words for a fruitful search?

Re: Not interested in a keto diet

Hi Emerald - A keto diet made me very ill. I'm still recovering. My gut apparently doesn't wish to digest and absorb large quantities of fat. So, I'm sticking with a low glycemic approach. That's just going to have to be good enough, so I'm rolling with it. Your body is telling you that keto will in...

Re: Zero carb diet will help prevent Alzheimer’s

All I can say is that, having given it more than a fair go with expert advice, a zero carb diet is decidedly not agreeing with me on an experiential level. In fact, I'd say it's impossible for me. I don't think we have a one size fits all answer.

NPC1L1 and Ketone Diarrhea

Okay - just throwing out hypotheses here. NPC1L1 is a gene that codes for an intestinal cholesterol transporter. Multiple variations in NPC1L1 have been reported that vary in their efficacy, such that some people with mutant NPC1L1 transport cholesterol poorly. These people have low serum cholestero...

Re: keto alternate

Thanks Swamp for the encouragement, but I can't. I've thought about my situation and feel much clearer today. High carb beans and rice is a nonoption. My husband does the food prep, and pressure cooking beans is out of his range. He also has a bunch of negative psychological associations with rice a...

Re: keto alternate

Thanks, the idea of bean based Vegan has me very depressed. The example recipes read like a prison sentence. Especially since I don't have a weight problem, diabetes or high cholesterol.
