Epiphanies on “Lose weight with this one weird trick”

Here’s an odd update: eating fewer calories with a physically smaller stomach. I don’t understand this phenomenon or its symptoms very well, so I’ll write about it. Maybe someone else will benefit from my “Well, duh” epiphanies. I’ve been “losing weight” since reaching 198 pounds in 2013. My Dad had...

Re: Bad experience with propofol

Current guidelines from the US Preventive Task Force support stopping colonoscopies at age 75, although the website shows that they are in process of reviewing the recommendations. I'm with you, Nords, and would give some thought about skipping the age 75 colonoscopy if the age 65 one is normal. Es...

Re: Bad experience with propofol

My sister Valerie has twice had precancerous polyps removed during colonoscopies (three polyps in all). She's 18 months younger than me and smoked cigarettes much longer than I did. (I quit at age 22. I'm 59 now.) In the past month or two, I heard in a podcast that untreated SIBO (small intestine b...

Re: I’m no longer a conservator, but I’ll always be ε4/ε4

@Tincup (and anyone else who's followed this thread), the estate-planning post is finally up: https://the-military-guide.com/family-estate-planning-for-your-disability/ One immediate lesson has been that some property managers don't like working with rental properties that are in a revocable living ...

Re: I’m no longer a conservator, but I’ll always be ε4/ε4

I've been through this 3 times, once with my mother and twice with other in-law relatives. In all cases, the person ended up with dementia/AlzD. Things that worked for me. - the basics: medical and financial POA's that are kept "fresh." Meaning resigned fairly frequently. - however, many ...

We’ll see where this ends up. As I’ve mentioned in other forums, this may help me distinguish my real friends from my acquaintances. So true! Thank you for joining us, my friend. The more of us who come out and make noise, the more traction we'll get with the prevention message which you beautifull...

... but maybe I’ll start writing more about Alzheimer’s. I write a lot about personal finance and long-term care insurance but I’ve avoided the ε4 topic. Most of my readers are in their 20s yet a few are in their 60s. I think they’ll appreciate learning more about dealing with dementia. I’ve finall...

How does one assess the quality of a macadamia nut?

I'm asking as a guy who had a macadamia tree in our back yard, and cut it down because of all the mess it makes... and the rodents it attracts.

Re: Alzheimer's caregivers, guardians, and conservators

I am new to this forum, but wonder if it is current since the posts I am seeing seem mostly from 2015-2017 Yep, the topic is current although the events occurred from 2008-17. I wrote most of it while my father was approaching end-stage Alzheimer's. He died in November 2017, so my life shifted from...
