Re: Statins when you’re homozygous APOE4

@Nords, thank you for sharing all of this information. I'm a data scientist, so love your chart in the first post :) I was wondering what lifestyle interventions you have found most effective in managing your cholesterol until now - I would also like to put off a statin as long as possible. You’re ...

Re: Statins when you’re homozygous APOE4

Why are side-effect driven drugs sought when natural and lifestyle habit changes can fix the problem without dangerous side effects? @AnnieV, as the original poster of this thread, I hope it's understood that I'm researching a reasonably reliable statin (with fewer side effects, and in a minimal do...

Re: Statins when you’re homozygous APOE4

Nords, Have you done the 14 hour fasting Dr. Bredesen says APOE4 must do? That alone dropped my VLDL and Trigs massively, same for my APOE4/4 mother, in just a month or so of time. (Vitamin C is a natural statin, it has none of the statin drug side effects like depleting CoQ10 either....) I'd faste...

Re: Statins when you’re homozygous APOE4

Maybe the answer depends upon the specific chemistry of each individual. I read Lipitor, Thief of Memory long ago. Also with a half-dozen different types of statins (and a couple newer options for lowering apoB) I think the studies are going to need another decade or two before there's a clear trend.

Re: Statins when you’re homozygous APOE4

Thanks, @Tincup, I think I'm on the right track with the food recommendations. It's interesting looking up the APOE and statins keywords in Outlive. Attia specifically mentions a bunch of lifestyle standards for APOE4s (exercise, diet) and never mentions statins. He specifically mentions a bunch of ...

Statins when you’re homozygous APOE4

Long post alert: 900 words. I've read through the last couple years of statins posts, and it's probably better to start a new thread with these questions. I write to make sense of my life, and sharing it here helps me write. This time it’s age-related humblewhining about Dr. Attia’s “Outlive” chapte...

Re: Did you tell your family?

My concerns are: 1) I would be revealing information about my mom that she doesn't want to know, which means she probably wouldn't want other people to know. 2) I have no way of knowing whether my half-siblings would want to know, and they may not. So there's the chance that I'll be doing them harm...

...and presumably make me ineligible for long term or life insurance. @Kurt.2, before you decide on sharing your genome with your doctor, you might want to consider whether you want long-term care insurance in the first place. In America I'm cautiously encouraged by today's permanent (largely whole...

Re: Will he hide it?

Should I just MYOB? How should I be handling this? Should we just be living our best lives and cross whatever bridges there are when we get to them? I'm 4/4 and I'll turn 62 years old next month. On our family history, father passed away from Alzheimer's and his father dealt with dementia. My other...
