Re: Ready to Quit
My post may or may not apply to everyone in this thread, but below is my take for my own situation. Since we all come from different walks of life and are of different ages, health statuses, etc., perhaps this will help someone else: Personally, I am going to focus on my measurements and determine w...

Re: Review article on AD risk factors: so many studies, so many conflicting or inconclusive results
This is why - at the age of 29 - I refuse to give up cheese (which I have a slice of once or twice daily), other dairy products like all natural half and half creamer, alcohol, etc. I'll follow the obvious recommendations, but I'm not going to give up everything I enjoy when it's not 100% proven. As...

Re: Epigenetics - can we really turn APOE4 off?
Sorry, everyone - I think perhaps I wasn't clear. My question was around whether daily lifestyle habits - not surgerical interventions or the quests around undoing aging (which I am far too familiar with) or anything of the sort - could "turn off" the APOE4 gene, similar to how people say ...

Re: Those E2's think they're so cool. . . not so fast!
There are downsides associated with all forms of APOE.
A recent study indicated that APOE 2/4 people may not really benefit from much Alzheimer's protection, as APOE4 much more strongly overrides the benefits of APOE2 than it overrides APOE3. I'll have to dig up the study.

"Lifetime risk for APOE4/4 carriers is 30% because they'll likely die from heart disease" - is this research outdated?
I feel like the below is very likely outdated at this point. Does the Generational Study address this? I'm wondering what this means for 2/4 and 3/4 carriers, too. This case involves the APOE gene on chromosome 19. This has gotten considerable attention since roughly the mid-1990s. There are six var...

...With regard to early-onset Alzheimer's that runs in family, aren't those cases typically due to very specific genes? APOE usually doesn't play a role. This forum can definitely be beneficial when it comes to encouraging healthy lifestyles in general, but I would keep in mind that most of the lif...

Hi, Sara - welcome! It sounds like you have a positive and inquisitive attitude, and that is fantastic! :) With regard to early-onset Alzheimer's that runs in family, aren't those cases typically due to very specific genes? APOE usually doesn't play a role. This forum can definitely be beneficial wh...

Re: How do I stop freaking out about this?
Thank you to everyone for responding. I know that eventually this pain will fade and I'll be much more accepting of this. I know already that I've been feeling really good lately. I had a solid day today and I only thought about it a few times. I'm not much of a "defeatist" per say. I wan...

Re: 26 and 4/4
rara, I have some good news: you have found the most positive and helpful online health community on the web. The stereotype that these types of platforms are extremely negative and overrun with self-fulfilling prophecies of gloom and doom? That doesn't exist here. You are now surrounded by proactiv...

Epigenetics - can we really turn APOE4 off?
I have a question - I definitely understand the concept of epigenetics and how certain genes can be turned on or off based on emotional, environmental, etc. factors. That said, is APOE4 really one of those genes? Aren't the two copies of APOE we have (whether they're 2, 3, and/or 4) technically alwa...
