Re: Female Chromosomes Offer Resilience to Alzheimer’s

I also have version 3 of 23andMe. Like you, I'm thinking of upgrading to version 5, but there's no telling if the common variant rs12845057 will be covered. If someone on this forum has version 5, please consider checking for rs12845057, Thanks. I’ve got version five and it’s not showing on mine ei...

Re: Genetic Architecture of AD: Update

I attempted to read the full article here: https://journals.plos.org/plosgenetics/article?id=10.1371/journal.pgen.1008612 but a lot of the science went over my head. Since you clearly have a better grasp of this, would you mind answering a question? This is from the article: "For Alzheimer’s di...

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24925971/ Thinking outside the box is how most great leaps forward begin! So enjoy delving into research and posing questions. I haven't seen evidence that ApoE 4 increases the level of Lp(a); I think the SNP you found it one of the "apolipoprotein (a) family&qu...

Would an allele that reduced lipoprotein(a) modify apoe4?

Bear with me. I'm still really new to all this research so there might be gaping holes in my theory. I know nothing is really certain but if the problem with apoe4 were because it increased the level of Lp(a), would snps that reduced your levels of Lp(a) then reduce your Alzheimer's risk in theory? ...

https://tbsnews.net/international/coronavirus-chronicle/100-year-old-man-recovered-coronavirus-53548?amp For as lousy as this gene is in some ways, it definitely gives us a leg up in apocalyptic-type situations. I guess the apoe4 figures it has to pop its head up and prove why it's still around eve...

Re: Just discovered I'm 4/4, rocked.

Ding! I forgot to look at my raw data. Was using Promethease. Rats, I'm A,A. That sucks but there are other genes that help offset the risk. Did you check these out: Picalm rs3851179 and Cd33 rs3865444? I don't have the alleles written down but SNPedia will have them. I was also reading that one of...
