Re: is over-pruning of synapses by microglia an issue in alzheimer's

more in depth: Additional experiments on isolated microglia made it clear to the researchers that progranulin normally acts as a brake to prevent excessive microglia activation. Without it, it appeared that an unknown aspect of the normal aging process allowed microglia to spiral out of control. &qu...

is over-pruning of synapses by microglia an issue in alzheimer's

"...in mouse models of FTD (frontotemporal lobe dementia) caused by a deficiency in the protein progranulin, the microglia were too aggressive in removing these neural connections, often targeting connections that should have been left intact..." in this over-pruning an issue in alzheimer'...

can those in contact with dr bredesen ask why there is no research being done on the prevention of ftd?

It seems that there has been a lot of research leading to good prevention strategies for those at risk for Alzheimer's. why isn't something similar being done for frontotemporal lobe dementia (ftd)? i would love to set up a site where i could collect and disseminate info on prevention strategies for...

Re: big cognitive/energy improvement dealing with anemia

Stavia, i didn't think it was a cause- but a marker of dna damage. my brother can't stop smoking. he also works around chemicals. i was thinking of advising him to get a ferritin test when he gets his annual physical. i saw a table published somewhere on elevated ferritin levels that need to be inve...

Re: big cognitive/energy improvement dealing with anemia

Stavia, what level of ferritin is a danger sign. my sister in law was just diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung cancer. it seemed to come out of nowhere. but her blood work from a month before showed a ferritin level of 300. i have since read that high levels can be a maker of cancer. i was thinki...

i'm not apoe 4, but have had cognitive decline. as an example, i found someone's keys in my pocket and did not know how they got there. i knew i could have completely forgotten an incident, so i kept that possibility in mind. but i was also paranoid that someone was playing a trick on me. anyway, 2 ...
