Re: Viome Testing

I'm intrigued by the stories here but turned off by the online reviews from DNA Testing Choice and Amazon . And when I sorted the Amazon reviews by Most recent , the difference between the glowing early Vine reviews from people who received free tests and the disappointed ones from people who paid w...

Re: animal protein

Kudos to circular for detailed and persuasive explanation of the Layman / Lyons points of view. I agree with her that this topic is vital. A couple of years ago, briefly intrigued by Rosedale's idea that mTOR should be minimized, I reduced my protein intake - my subjective opinion is that the result...

Re: Having trouble posting In Prevention and Treatment

The short answer is to rephrase any failing post to eliminate all left parentheses. Most of us can stop reading this post right here. :-) The phpBB3 software that we use has a bug that causes posts containing certain sequences of the form " keyword ( x " where keyword is any of a number of...

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin

I think if I have ANY side effects from the Zetia I'll print this out and take it to my doctor. How will you know in time? Some side effects are not felt until they cause irreparable damage. For example, the side effects of glyphosate (Roundup) exposure may include non-Hodgkin lymphoma . Nutritiona...

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin

In my opinion, the science suggesting that micromanaging serum cholesterol is good for human health is highly suspect.

Re: Zero carb diet will help prevent Alzheimer’s

Exactly (agreeing with jgilberAZ). On this point, Peter at Hyperlipid has a great new post today in which he uses images of real arteries to illustrate the impossibility of the lipid hypothesis. I recommend the whole thing and the comments. Here's an excerpt: It is very, very hard to explain how utt...

Re: Keto, blood surgar, cholesterol, protein--how to balance?

I recommend the article and the bidirectional references, not the simplistic calculator. The article seems clear and reasonable to me. This is not an exact science - I view this resource as a starting point for individuals to explore the protein quantity issue for themselves in the context of scient...

Re: Keto, blood surgar, cholesterol, protein--how to balance?

Examine.com targets a lay audience, so they frame their recommendations against the number everyone knows - body weight - the status everyone knows - healthy weight, overweight / obese, pregnant, lactating - and the objective everyone knows - maintenance, muscle gain, fat loss. No calculation is nee...

Re: Keto, blood surgar, cholesterol, protein--how to balance?

Perhaps, but Dr. Bredesen would argue the majority of that evidence is based upon a very unhealthy Western population. I find this type of argument persuasive in the context of observational studies, which don't establish causation. Fortunately, on this topic of protein consumption we can do better...
