Re: Best type of exercise for ε4s

Thanks for the kind wishes, Juliegee. Our situation is made worse by our injured dog's pesky little brother. Very hard to take him out and leave her behind!

Re: My version of a Ketogenic Diet

Great post, Juliegee! Your diet looks much like mine. I eat lots of salads, cruciferous vegetables, asparagus, EVOO, coconut oil. I sometimes eat 85% chocolate too. :-) I limit my protein intake. (My target is 1 g per pound of lean body mass.) I fast for 16+ hours each day. Some differences: - I don...

Re: Resistant Starch

I added RS (Bob's Red Mill Unmodified Potato Starch) to my ketogenic diet for two weeks a couple of months ago. Thankfully, the resulting stinky gas and constipation went away as soon as I stopped.

I wasn't tracking what I ate at that time, so this is a guess based on what I learned later by tracking everything on MyFitnessPal: 25% carbohydrates, 25% protein, 50% fat. By the time of the test, I had already cleared the industrial seed oils and processed foods from my diet. I also had lost my re...

Re: Things Here That May Lower Our Amyloid Burden

These are all fascinating. Here are two more Acetyl-l-carnitine (ALCAR) studies of interest. Note that L-acetyl-carnitine (LAC) and acetylcarnitine (ALC) are identical to ALCAR. Also, don't confuse ALCAR/LAC/ALC with L-carnitine which is a different substance rather than another synonym. Confused ye...

Re: Best type of exercise for ε4s

Fascinating commentary article, Juliegee - thanks! I found the emphasis on daily activity to be particularly helpful. I have been feeling pretty good about my three weekly 75-90 minute ice hockey sessions, but my Polar Loop step counts for the other four days have been pathetic ! I sit most of the d...

Re: merouleau intro

Thanks for the kind welcomes! SusanJ, thanks for the heads up regarding potential interactions of exercise with ApoE4 status. I see a discussion on that topic in the Nutrition/Exercise area. Juliegee, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only ApoE4 who is interested in the ketogenic diet. And as a fan o...

merouleau intro

Hi, I'm 51 and 3/4 with no symptoms yet. My 3/4 father is 73 and after a number of years with "mild cognitive impairment" has been reevaluated recently to "moderate" status. One of my four biological children, age 21, is 3/4 also. (I have one adopted child who, thankfully, is 3/3...
