Re: Message from Food Revolution Network and Dr. Greger

There are quite a few good reasons to be plant based, ranging from health to environmentalism to ethics. But this is not how I was brought up. For decades I've been involved with strength training personally, and part of that was eating a lot of meat. This was not a sacrifice on my part. I loved to ...

Re: apoE4, exercise and BDNF

Marty, anything in the full text that says how much excercise exactly? Maybe the dose was too low and e4s need more.... Stavia, I already know you well enough to know that you would push yourself harder than these subjects. There certainly a lot of other benefits to fitness training beside just BDN...

Marty, anything in the full text that says how much excercise exactly? Maybe the dose was too low and e4s need more.... Aerobic exercise-training protocol: Each subject's maximum heart rate was inferred from baseline VO2Max tests. Both aerobic exercise and stretch exercise group subjects participat...

Re: RE: Re: an E4/E4 brain CAN recover

Marty the neurologists were adamant that recovery wasn't possible and the global damage was permanent. This was 11ish years ago. The only initial intervention was exercise and an awful lot of world of warcraft. I had to lie about the latter because the concussion team was adamant it was harmful. Mu...

apoE4, exercise and BDNF

This recent study looked at the effect of long term exercise on blood levels of brain derived neurotrophic factor in those who carry apoE4. BDNF normally goes up after habitual exercise and is suspected as being at least part of the story in how exercise improves cognitive function. This study is di...

Re: Frequent saunas appear protective from AD

A hot tub or bath is not the same as sweating out toxins, although you can add agents to bath to help the body detoxify (clay, epsom salts, baking soda ). http://www.drwhitaker.com/health-benefits-of-a-sauna/[/quote] Not sure what you mean by sweating out toxins. The above reference cites the succes...

Re: Frequent saunas appear protective from AD

The authors call it a sauna bath. I assume it's steam but don't know. I'd interpret this with caution as far as concluding that saunas prevent or delay AD. Rather, I'd say that those who frequently have saunas seem protected. The difference is important. We don't know causation. I don't take 4-7 sau...
