Re: Zero carb diet will help prevent Alzheimer’s

In our upcoming book, Dr. Bredesen adds an Omega-3 index goal of greater than 10% for E4 carriers. If you decide to experiment with using only plant sources (which feels a bit risky to me, but may work given your favorable genetics) you are in a perfect position to inform us all. Here's a link for ...

Re: Peter Attia #85 - Iñigo San Millán, Ph.D.: Mitochondria, exercise, and metabolic health

I also am finding this episode fascinating. I'm about halfway through. I am particularly interested in the statement that lactate is an important fuel source for the body and brain. It is not, as is popularly thought, a waste product. San Millan states that lactate is actually a better fuel for the ...

Re: Zero carb diet will help prevent Alzheimer’s

A worry I have is that the effect: "It [natural selection] couldn't care less about genes and lifestyle choices that keep you physically and mentally healthy into old age" validly made by xactly might be worse than "couldn't care". It might be "antagonistic pleiotropy"...

Re: Zero carb diet will help prevent Alzheimer’s

We always talk about how there is no ONE diet that will work for all of us. We are each a compilation of so much more than our shared ApoE4 allele(s). That said, evidence is strongly converging to demonstrate that the single most important thing our population can do is to avoid insulin resistance,...

Re: Zero carb diet will help prevent Alzheimer’s

I read this thread with interest. I am choosing a different approach to diet. My family has a strong history of heart disease. My father, a trim and fit individual, died of a myocardial infarction while hiking on the Appalachian Trail two weeks after his 50th birthday. Four of his five siblings also...

Re: What's the best strategy?

I would be inclined to say it's worth concentrating on all the major influence points because they are beneficial for health and longevity, regardless of the diagnosis. In my mind, those points of influence are: 1) exercise; 2) high quality sleep; 3) diet (including key supplements) ; 4) stress mana...

Re: Is anyone taking Metformin for longevity (or considering it)?

I took Metformin briefly earlier this year. I'm a healthy older adult without metabolic disorder or diabetes. I discontinued use after a couple of months when Peter Attia shared research showing Metformin blunts the positive effects of exercise in healthy people. Interestingly, and possibly related ...

Re: Is Omega-6 Good for You?

Peter Attia published an interview of Bill Harris that I found fascinating. I learned that linoleic acid (Omega-6) is an essential fatty acid (can't be synthesized in the body). Harris also discussed research which shows consumption of linoleic acid is inversely proportional to the incidence of card...

But I'm not losing weight. My oxidized cholesterol is still high risk. My leptin is twice what it should be. My fasting glucose is fine, but my fasting insulin is three times what it should be. Would you consider doing periodic fasts? I was impressed by the results Jason Fung shared in has book, &q...

Re: Higher phosphatidylcholine protects against dementia

CMJ's advice seems internally consistent to me and aligns well with your experience of high inflammation with low AA. I feel great when I eat lots of eggs, and common sense tells me that any naturally occurring food containing all the nutrients required to form a baby chicken must be good food. Tha...
