Re: Serotonin, Depression and SSRI Antidepressants

I'm unsure on the sleep but understand there is a link with serotonin and melatonin. I've found my sleep has improved since starting fluoxetine again but I need to take it in the mornings or it keeps me awake if I take it in the evenings. (I'm back on my original dose now and is helping me a lot wit...

Yes this has also been mention this week in the UK papers as well.

Wonder if it may be used preventatively? Looks hopeful.

Re: Lower cancer risk in AD patients, APOE4 carriers

Come to think of it, in my family have no one with cancer apart from one uncle in over 70s. Not any in maternal line. Wonder if similar for others with APOE4..

Re: Lower cancer risk in AD patients, APOE4 carriers

I wondered about the immune system response given that APOE4s are meant to be better at fighting off infections perhaps. If it might be better at fighting off cancer in the early stages. But if it is overactive might be a problem for things like AD.

New study on number of births and dementia risk

Study finds more births especially over 5, increases risk of dementia https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2018/07/19/Pregnancy-history-linked-to-risk-for-Alzheimers-disease/9541532000284/ Link to the study here http://n.neurology.org/content/early/2018/07/18/WNL....

Re: Lower cancer risk in AD patients

Even more interesting. Seems APOE4 might give a lower cancer risk according to this study. Seems to be mainly in men though. :? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3582279/ Trade-Off in the Effect of the APOE Gene on the Ages at Onset of Cardiocascular Disease and Cancer across Ages, Gender...

Re: Lower cancer risk in AD patients

also that is seems to be a lowered risk with just some cancers and not others and there may be a small increased overall risk, Makes me wonder if some of the metabolic affects on cancer and AD might be at play there, as well.
