Re: Anyone else doing a low saturated fat Ketogenic diet?

Hi everyone, just wondering what would you consider low saturated fat? Here is a snapshot of my diet. For the last 30 days cronometer.com says I've been 60% fat, 15% carbs (~20-40 g per day), 23% protein, 16 hour overnight fasts. I get 4-6 cups of non-starchy veggies per day. But my omega 3 - omega ...

Re: How strictly do you adhere to a prevention lifestyle?

Hi McGido. I phased in the lifestyle / diet changes over the course of a year or two. And I wonder how well I'll adhere to the plan over the long term. I've tried to make it a "real" new lifestyle and get support from my healthcare providers and family in the hope that this will help me st...

Re: Questions......I don't know where to start!

Hi. I sometimes remind myself of the Taoist quote: “One disease, long life; No disease, short life.” I guess the idea is that after one illness we all pay more attention to our health, and take some control of it. Your post made me think of that.

Re: https://alzheimer-prevention.com/

Stavia's right, as usual. I tend to be a bit more pro-statin but that's because of my particular situation (gotta take CVD seriously). There's an ongoing statin thread here which recently discused two studies showing statins reduce risks of AD, with greater benefit for 4/4s. Both water soluble and f...

Re: New paper suggests that statins may be beneficial for E4 homozygotes

Not an expert on hazard ratios (HR) but the ones in the study above seem pretty darn good. From the always-true www: HR "0.5 means that at any particular time, half as many patients in the treatment group are experiencing an event compared to the control group." Can anyone with more experi...

Re: New paper suggests that statins may be beneficial for E4 homozygotes

Apologies if this study was already discussed. It seems relevant to the discussion. (Was reminded of this one by someone else, who is smarter than I am) Statins are associated with a reduced risk of Alzheimer disease regardless of lipophilicity. The Rotterdam Study M D M Haag1, A Hofman1, P J Koudst...

Re: An unbiased look at cholesterol?

I have read the transcript. I don't believe we (humans, not our community specifically) understand lipids sufficiently to confidently predict disease in individuals based on just the numbers pertaining to LDL and HDL. (I am happy with trigs as a fairly robust marker of insulin sensitivity) Totally ...

Re: New paper suggests that statins may be beneficial for E4 homozygotes

This has been one of my biggest questions. I've surprised myself by coming to disagree with Dr. Bredesen on statins. Well, actually, I don't think it is a disagreement really. I think he works with symptomatic patients and the pros and cons of statins seems clearly on the "don't use" side ...
