Re: Panicking 41yr old grown up man

I eat a lot of fruit as a side. A lot means a half of a big papaya, 2 nectarins, 1 passion fruit, 1 banana, 6 oZ of blueberries, half of a big pomelo. I'm trying to keep the amount of fructose low because it causes bloating. Peter, welcome! This is a bit confusing... You say that you eat a lot of f...

Re: Red meat intake, 62% higher risk of type 2 diabetes

1) Our bodies are designed for feast or famine; therefore, intermittent fasting is beneficial. Longer fasts (36 - 72 hours) seem to benefit men more, presumably because they would need clear thinking and high energy to go out and hunt. Shorter fasts (I’m guessing 18/6, 20/4, etc) seem to be better ...

Re: Red meat intake, 62% higher risk of type 2 diabetes

The end point of red meat eating would be combining meat with carbs. I assume the carnivores are not consuming many carbs. If that is true, they are indeed on pause from diabetes. Fat inside muscle cells prevents glucose from getting into the muscle cells, causing blood sugar levels to rise. Lower ...

Re: fasting glucose and a1c

How do you keep LDLs from being an issue if you eat full fat dairy? I've been eating lots of cheese my whole life, and now I have to lay off. My LDL has been an issue since before I started this diet. In my case, Statins cause muscle breakdown. Working with Cardiologist to get insurance to approve ...

Re: fasting glucose and a1c

What do you eat? I'm broken after a brain stem stroke - I need to keep my carbs to ~40 grams / day to keep my BG from going above 200. This limits my diet considerably. I keep to full fat dairy - cheese, cream. I eat lots of protein. 3 soft boiled eggs is a common breakfast, which I have after 9. C...

Re: fasting glucose and a1c

In looking at my Excel schedule, I see several days where the spike was 132 - 140. But there was one day where I didn't eat the protein & veggies because I was planning on a third meal. The spike was only 122. I started at 116. At 1 hour, I had declined to 111. Hour 2 was 115. Hour 3 was 122. H...

Re: fasting glucose and a1c

For the last two weeks, I have been experimenting more than trying to figure out a pattern to live with. I learned that bananas are horrible, oatmeal is better than yogurt, high fiber doesn't offset the impact of carbs, I can eat walnuts without spiking. I'm surprised oatmeal was better than yogurt...

Re: fasting glucose and a1c

It seems that adding 1/2 banana causes a huge glucose spike in the 2nd hour! The reading was again 30 points higher at the 2nd hour than the readings on the other mornings when I didn't have 1/2 banana. Tragic. I've been eating bananas my whole life. I guess that's over. Yes, bananas are one of the...
