Re: Dr. Rhonda: Get some DHA in phospholipid form

Does the argument/concern around DHA generalize to EPA supplementation?

Re: First Blood Results: Very High Homocysteine

Quick update: I'm currently taking 1 mg methylcobalamin and 0.8 mg methyl-tetrahydrofolate. I usually split the B12 into two doses of 0.5 mg per day, because I heard Masterjohn talking about an upper limit on how much B12 you can absorb at a given time. Should I be doing the same with the folate? Al...

Re: E4/E4 Alternate-Day Fasting n=1 Results: LDL, HDL, Triglycerides

Rainbow, I didn't do a keto diet because it was a fad - I did it because I had been in the ICU twice in a year. I did it to heal. The reason for a keto diet varies. The first year I lost 60 lbs. The second year I worked with a Physical Therapist to strengthen my core while staying the same weight. ...

Re: Non-diabetic low insulin maybe not so good?

Brian, you may want to experiment with occasionally increasing good carbs, like sweet potatoes and broccoli. My fasting insulin also puts me in Team Sweet Potato. We often emphasize using a low insulin environment with ketones to offset the hypometabolism in apoe4 brains, but insulin appears to hav...

I was using this stuff: http://www.chicorycup.com

Found it in a grocery store back in South Africa, but it seems to be imported. It's supposed to be pure roasted chicory root.

Re: High FIBER reduces brain inflammation via several different mechanisms

When I was using Keurig K-Cups (until two days ago!), after using one once, I would then run it through on the tiny cup size with chicory root in the bottom of the cup. The chicory balanced out the weakness of the second pass through the K-Cup and this was my 'second cup of coffee'. I suppose this ...

Powdered chicory root is great as a coffee substitute.

Re: Anxiety!

I'm looking for suggestions about handling anxiety in general, and about sleep in particular. Here are some things that've helped me with sleep and anxiety, in no particular order (the experiment keeps evolving, and I'm still figuring it out). These may not be effective for you at all, but I though...

Re: E4/E4 Alternate-Day Fasting n=1 Results: LDL, HDL, Triglycerides

Sure those help, but your body prefers glucose to ketones, so whenever there is glucose available (from carbs), the body (especially, it seems, ApoE4s) snaps to using that, and the Ketosis diet is over. Maybe folks with E3s can go back and forth, but if I eat any appreciable amount of carbs, it is ...

Re: E4/E4 Alternate-Day Fasting n=1 Results: LDL, HDL, Triglycerides

Walker44 - everything that I've seen suggests you would be better off with a keto diet, rather than one heavy in carbs, at least in the context of preventing Alzheimer's. Mike, could you elaborate on this? Or perhaps post a link to a previous discussion. I'd have thought that fasting and exercise w...
