Re: 2016 Meet-Up

Quick update on the tentatively proposed meet-up in April; it’s fallen through. The LA symposium is apparently limited in space and primarily open to AD researchers. I've emailed the conference coordinator to get further information. They may let me in given my neuroscience background and universit...

Re: Peer Review Cautions

...it is now easy to do a small forray into looking at snp correlation with whatever strikes the researcher's fancy. I predict we will see thousands of these and most likely most will be dead ends for us. That's why I intend not to go exome diving. I'm not even 23andme data diving. Seen this first ...

It looks like that issue is not yet in PubMed, so I can't use my usual access point. Sorry. If nobody else can get it now, bump up this topic in a few weeks or PM me.

Re: EEG Tech to help AD patients

Having had some clinical and research experience with EEG and neurofeedback and attending a couple conferences where these devices are promoted, I would say don't get too excited. There are definitely great gains being made with EEG directed human-machine interfaces, but I have not seen anything abo...

Re: New Alzheimer's treatments may arise from modeling 'heat shock proteins'

Richard, do you think if we exercise well over the 60% max (i.e. 80% for 40 minutes), produce the HSP benefits earlier than "180 minutes of exercise"? Am I correctly reading 3 hours of exercise at 60%max? I'm viewing this as a proof of concept piece rather than a source of guidance about ...

Sorry, can't get a free copy. Here is the original abstract from the paper: Thirty-four individuals with mild cognitive impairment were randomized for 6 months to a nutraceutical formulation (NF: folate, alpha-tocopherol, B12, S-adenosyl methioinine, N-acetyl cysteine, acetyl-L-carnitine) or indisti...

Re: Vitamin D: Don't Overdo a Good Thing

For a long time I have had this persisting concern that all sorts of chronic conditions for which vitamin D has been flagged as low and a risk factor suffer from a spurious correlation. I have strong suspicions that many of those conditions likely find sufferers more bound to the indoors where perso...
