Re: Melatonin

I can't comment on Consumer Lab specifically. It may be credible. Beware that some "labs" are non-existent or are paid by the manufacturing or importing company for an endorsement. If there is advertising on the website that says it did the analysis, be very suspicious. Another concern is ...

Re: Neurologist and a 4/4

Pretty much all major studies have confidentiality agreements to limit divulgence of design of the study. There are different reasons for this, but one of them is to prevent competing groups from unfair advantage. There are egos, patents, and money involved, like in most human endeavors. What I can ...

Re: Mind your ApoA1 levels!

[quote="Juliegee"]Marty, many of us are following the cardiovascular angle too. So far, it looks though pharmaceutically induced higher HDL levels are of little to no value. For now, looks like HDL has to be earned the old fashioned way. The relationship between HDL and neurodegeneration i...

Re: Mind your ApoA1 levels!

This is another piece in a large puzzle. I wonder what it means. My initial reaction is to think about the association of higher HDL with protection against heart disease. That association begged the question as to whether increasing HDL in patients prevents heart disease. So far, the major studies ...

Melatonin

Dr. Bredesen incorporates melatonin into his protocol, which makes good sense. But it's not that simple. Normal melatonin blood levels increase an hour or longer before bedtime and they are sustained throughout the night. So far, so good. Exogenous melatonin often creates unpredictable blood levels....

Re: Effect of living near a busy road- increases dementia risk

Good one, Stavia. These findings raise important questions. First, regarding Parkinsonism and MS, the numbers were smaller so it may be that a small effect from location near a busy road was missed. Who knows? Here are some more cogent questions before we assume that there is some environmental toxi...

Re: For those of us with elevated Lp(a)

Here's a study that shows ApoE4 is associated with reduced Lp(a). http://www.lipidjournal.com/article/S1933-2874(14)00087-7/fulltext?mobileUi=0 Here's something more recent that looked at Lp(a), not with apoE4, and found that higher Lp(a) levels seem protective against dementia (not necessarily Alzh...

Re: For those of us with elevated Lp(a)

I'm new here so forgive this question. Is the concern about Lp(a) because some here have an elevated level or because there is some link between ApoE4 and Lp(a)? In general, people ApoE4 tend to have a lower Lp(a) than E2 and E3, but there are exceptions.

Thanks.

Re: Message from Food Revolution Network and Dr. Greger

There are quite a few strategies for social navigating at parties and other gatherings. To do them justice, it would take more than I can keyboard in a reasonable time. But here are some ideas. At a party where there is a lot of food and drinking, one thing to do is to help the host in order to keep...

Re: Message from Food Revolution Network and Dr. Greger

I am easily seduced by hyperpalatable food. If I don't regulate my eating strictly, I don't do well. So I plan me meals the day before and eat only that. It works for me. The hardest part has been social navigating. What do you do when the host offers you his/her special dish? What do you say when y...
