Re: an E4/E4 brain CAN recover

You're a gift to all of us.

I admire your spunk. Giving up is always, always the last resort.

apoE4, exercise and BDNF

This recent study looked at the effect of long term exercise on blood levels of brain derived neurotrophic factor in those who carry apoE4. BDNF normally goes up after habitual exercise and is suspected as being at least part of the story in how exercise improves cognitive function. This study is di...

Re: Frequent saunas appear protective from AD

A hot tub or bath is not the same as sweating out toxins, although you can add agents to bath to help the body detoxify (clay, epsom salts, baking soda ). http://www.drwhitaker.com/health-benefits-of-a-sauna/[/quote] Not sure what you mean by sweating out toxins. The above reference cites the succes...

Re: Frequent saunas appear protective from AD

The authors call it a sauna bath. I assume it's steam but don't know. I'd interpret this with caution as far as concluding that saunas prevent or delay AD. Rather, I'd say that those who frequently have saunas seem protected. The difference is important. We don't know causation. I don't take 4-7 sau...

Frequent saunas appear protective from AD

Partaking regularly in the relaxing practice of sauna bathing is associated with a decreased risk for dementia and Alzheimer's disease (AD) — at least in men, new research suggests. Further results from the Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease (KIHD) study, which included more than 2300 middle-aged men in ...

Re: Neurologist and a 4/4

I hope to study lipid metabolism in detail during 2017. There's a pretty extensive course, over 100 hours, I'm signing up for through the National Lipid Association. I completed it earlier but forgot most of it since I didn't use it. Also, the science keeps changing. I'll report what I learn re: apo...

Re: Neurologist and a 4/4

My mother was technically pre-diabetic and was over treated. I've heard Dr. Bredesen speak several times. I think he's doing good work. His approach can be subjected to controlled trials, it just would be hard. And it would be difficult finding funding. Most science involves reductionism, that is, t...

Re: Neurologist and a 4/4

Stavia, I wondered what it is like for him to be the only one there who is that sharp. Does he feel that he's treated as if he's not 100% because of the likely bias of assumption that he's not, or is he a super star there? SusanJ, my father had some form of dementia in his late 70s, likely Alzheimer...

Re: New study examining the effect of APOE-ε4 knowledge

I learned about my status by accident. My wife was doing genealogy investigations on our family. I sent my spit to 23andMe. Surprise! Being a libertarian at heart, I favor open information. But there is a cost with this freedom. Many may not have the capability to process the knowledge and act on it...
