Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin
Nonsense. Your doctor is your employee ... not your boss. You pay him for his advice. You don't have to follow it. If your doctor acts like he/she has authority over you and you must follow his instructions ... run to a new doctor. Yeah, I know, but easier said than done. I plan what I'm going to s...

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin
Ah, that probably explains your phyician’s aggresive management. A coronary calcium scan is probably a good idea to help quantify where you stand. I had a low radiation scan done a few years ago for just a couple hundred dollars. It was money well spent for the information and piece of mind. Best o...

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin
No signs of insulin resistance and your TG:HDL ratio at 0.7 is optimal. I think having a coronary calcium scan done would be very instructive. Do you have a strong family history of heart disease? Unfortunately yes: my father had quintuple bypass surgery at age 77. My mother had a bad aortic valve,...

Hi Slacker, slacker wrote:I don't think that there is consistent evidence that Zetia saves lives.
I found a similar, actually somewhat worse, assessment of the benefits of Zetia when I Googled it. It's all about the numbers--get the LDL down.

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin
I actually had a positive impression about Zetia when compared to a statin-- that for many of us it may be better to block absorption rather than impeding production. I'll have to do some more reading or listening about the potential negatives. Hi Chrissy, It does sound like a better approach altho...

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin
Hi Donbob, thanks for the response. I agree with the "coronary artery calcium scan" posters. I was pressed by my doctor to start a statin. My CAC scan was 19 at age 70. Like you, my TRI/HDL was less than 1. If my doctor doesn't accept more complete blood-work as sufficient evidence that I ...

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin
How will you know in time? Some side effects are not felt until they cause irreparable damage. For example, the side effects of glyphosate (Roundup) exposure may include non-Hodgkin lymphoma . ... Your numbers look great to me - no sign of insulin resistance, which I believe to be the root cause of...

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin
Get a coronary calcium scan. If it shows you have heart disease, then consider taking a statin. If it shows low risk, avoid the statin like the plague. Lowering cholesterol increases all-cause mortality. https://forums.apoe4.info/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6274&p=68450&hilit=ldl#p68450 https:/...

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin
In my opinion, the science suggesting that micromanaging serum cholesterol is good for human health is highly suspect . I agree!!! My doctor wrote a prescription for Zetia, which prevents the gut from absorbing LDL apparently. Anything that messes with my gut function sounds potentially catastrophi...

Re: I guess I'll be taking a statin
Hi WhatsNext! I'm going to conjecture as to WWDBS (What Would Dr. Bredesen Say). To further help you with your decision, you may want to consider having your LDL Particle Number (optimal <1000), Oxidized LDL (optimal < 60 U/I) and/or sdLDL-small density LDL (optimal < 20 mg/dl) . Cleveland Heart La...
