Yes Julie, that is what I was expecting. But after reading the Duke link, which references the lead investigator, it seems it's the same scan with a different focus on the vasculature rather than signs of plaque.
I'm also surprised by the curcumin.

Re: Retinal scan. Would you get it?
Hmm, this is interesting. It is the OCT scan and I thought it was to look for those protein aggregates as described by NF52. But, it seems they are using it to see if changes in vascular density can identify those at risk. It seems for now, they want to see if there are differences in the vascular d...

Re: Retinal scan. Would you get it?
No, it's not the same thing. the retinal exam is a study done through the Alzheimer's research center at a major university and testing for the presence of amyloid. It is being looked at as diagnostic for Alzheimer's. I would have no problem finding the results of eye health. But a diagnosis of Alzh...

Retinal scan. Would you get it?
I live near 2 major universities and one seems to be increasing it's research into Alzheimer's as I am now getting frequent e-mails about studies (or maybe because I'm another year older?). Typically I don't qualify as they seem to have a lot of middle aged women with advanced degrees. My latest, is...

Re: NIA needs ideas for AD
Our family doctor knew immediately that as soon as our loved one was no longer mobile that the care giving task would become enormously more difficult In my experience, for someone with dementia, this doesn't hold true. My ambulatory stage 6/7 father is very difficult to care for. He requires eyes ...

Re: Need advice re: my doctor
I want to bring up just one more thing to give you ammunition to bring costs down. There is also the "self pay" option LabCorp offers. Like discussed before, the insurance may be charged $50 but pay LabCorp $20 as the insurance is given a discount. The self-pay person, those without insura...

Re: Need advice re: my doctor
Great points cwicker. Can "client bill" be done if the test is not drawn in the office? Client bill can be done anywhere. The provider would just need to contract with the lab in order to get "a deal." I use Labcorp. The patient can get their labs done at any Labcorp but the bil...

Re: Need advice re: my doctor
This is how the lab system works: I might order a complete blood count on a patient. The charge for that, through insurance, will be, let's say $50. The test only costs the lab $4. The insurance won't pay them $50, and has made a "deal" that for a in-network patient/provider, they will onl...

Just saying hello
Hi, I have forayed a bit into the forum with some posts and comments while waiting for my genetic tests. Both my parents developed dementia in their mid-70's. My dad, though not sure about my mom, is a heterozygous E4, and I assume mom is too. Both my parents are in their early 80s and in a long ter...

Re: Alzheimer's caregivers, guardians, and conservators
This post is about my Dad. This background helps explain my later posts about our caregiver experience and our mistakes. The next post will give more links to caregiver resources. Thank you Nords. I just happened upon this thread. My father is also an electrical engineer in the Navy who started sho...
