Re: ? about Niacin and lipids

Great news, cwicker, about being a 3/3! Must bring you some peace of mind, given your parents' dementia. Good find on the myalgia risk, but now you have more good info for your focus in on your lipids. Thanks Susan, my husband, who is my caregiver partner and knows the shape my parents are in, aske...

Re: ? about Niacin and lipids

Yeah the various responses people have to statins is remarkable. wish I never had to be on one but oh well, roll the dice. I just got my 23andme result. It turns out, I am very surprised as both parents developed dementia in their mid 70s, that I am homozygous APOE3. Anyway, running my numbers thro...

Re: Why does Dr. Gundry say no crossfit for apoe4?

This is fascinating and perhaps gives me some explanation of why my athlete brother died of a cardiac arrest at 56. He was into cycling at the time and was riding a route and competing with a 25 year old who posted a faster time than him. He was also a top 10 master's swimmer in about 6-8 events.

Re: ? about Niacin and lipids

cwicker, For what it is worth, Dr. Steve Gundry says that Niaspan, is a bad deal, wrote a paper on it and talked to the head of the drug Co saying as much. On the other hand he does prescribe niacin as you are taking, with success. A gram a day is not unusual, from what other patients have reported...

Re: Sleep

Thanks floramaria, very helpful. I was just hoping I was not "too late" to help with the insomnia. I do have trouble understanding why a doctor would not consider hormones, bio-identical or not (which I'm not necessarily convinced they are "better" but it's beside the point), if ...

Re: ? about Niacin and lipids

Actually NF52, both ate well. My brother was an athlete who swam competitively and biked. My father was active. I can't find other risk factors for them. Your right, a coronary calcium score would put my mind at ease.

Re: Sleep

Thanks for posting this. Sleep is my biggest problem made bigger by the anxiety over the link of dementia and poor sleep. So, I am doing an on-line CBT program (shuti), have an appointment with a compounding pharmacist for testing and ask if BHRT would help, and have an appointment with the sleep ps...

Re: ? about Niacin and lipids

Thanks everyone for your responses. Certainly it's easy to go down rabbit holes on this forum. I ventured down some lipid ones often leave more confused than when I left.

Thanks Magda, the name is just a mash of my own.

Re: ? about Niacin and lipids

Yes Ski, I have tried Crestor and symptoms were worse! I could hardly walk across the parking lot. Of course the lipidologist was just describing his experience and the statement was not meant to be evidence based. Glad the statin works for you. I wish it did for me, Thanks for sharing your story Ru...

Re: ? about Niacin and lipids

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I am familiar with the outcome studies and always wonder if it's worth continuing. To be fair, they were mostly done with Niapspan which is really a different animal than short -acting Niacin. I started it under the guidance of a lipid specialist. It does not bring my ...
