Re: APOE 4 is higher risk in women than men
Cir, if you're only 51, I think we will have more information in this next decade. I'm 61, and did take HRT for about a decade. Perhaps, it's my imagination, while off the estrogen, but I don't feel as quick on my saxophone playing and I feel more overwhelmed, slightly down…I'm so tempted to go back...

Re: APOE 4 is higher risk in women than men
The article mentions Dr. Greicius's studying E4's risk, so I actually had Dr. Greicius evaluate me as to decreasing AD with estrogen. He was VERY noncommittal as to the benefits of taking estrogen, and warned that I should only do so up to age 65. It was as if he retracted the evidence that I read a...

Re: Walnuts
Thanks, for the post, G. When I found out my E4, I thought about eating some of the foods that my 96y/o mother and her father would love to eat---walnuts! They would eat about a half-cup/day.Still waiting for my mom's status as to ApoE from 23andme.

Sleep Apnea in E4
There appears to be a strong association of being an E4 carrier and developing sleep apnea. Plus, if you are a carrier, the apnea is worse, even though you might not have the stereotypical signs of being at risk for sleep apnea (obese, large neck size, male). http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12127...

Re: My version of a Ketogenic Diet
Julie, if your RBC's lifespan is longer, have you considered the fructamine test? This test confirmed a borderline high A1c for me. Somewhere (can't find it) I've read, A1c tends to reflect an erroreous higher average BG in non-diabetics than diabetics. I suspect it's the latter is the cause of our ...

Re: My version of a Ketogenic Diet
Julie & Merouleau, my BG is not even 111 at the 1pp, so it will be interesting if I continue to have the A1c of 5.5. The only times I have not tested is during sleep. Looking forward to Julie's testing results and A1c analysis. I was told by the endocrinologist, that the A1c is "just not ac...

Re: New Study: High Blood Glucose linked to Poor Cognition
SL, I've had a history of my first HSV developing into meningitis and always have Valcyclovir available for my usual annual outbreak. Now I realize that E4 may decrease HSV resistance or increase Alzheimer's risks. Your diet sounds similar to mine. Just with adding grapeseed oil mayo to my usual avo...

Re: New Study: High Blood Glucose linked to Poor Cognition
SL, when you had those 1pp spikes of 250 after carbs, do you know what your BG was after a lower carb meal? I presume it was normal, as you did not supplement with minute amounts of insulin. Yesterday I experimented and realized that my 1pp after a higher protein meal was only 100. Obviously, I am h...

Re: New Study: High Blood Glucose linked to Poor Cognition
My hematocrit, not my democrat :D although, my politics runs high too! I'm gradually increasing the protein and mono saturated fats, eliminated the simple sugars and decreasing the complex carbs. My 1pp 147 occurred after oatmeal, coconut unsweetened yogurt, banana and cinnamon, but 2pp 102. Julie, ...

Re: New Study: High Blood Glucose linked to Poor Cognition
Julie, my democrat tends to run the high side of normal, which thanks to 23andme, I now understand why a lifelong-non-beef eater has this due to one of the hemochromocytosis mutations, I absorb more iron. Intially, the 3/4 result did not concern me, but the I had more genetic risks for Alzheimers no...
