Reporting Aboard

Hi All, Here’s my story of how I came here and what I’ve been working on healthwise. I would really appreciate any feedback. :D I’m a 48 years-old man with E4/E4. I have a BMI of 22.5, body fat around 13%. I’m married with two kids. I have a desk job but get up every 30 minutes or so to walk about. ...

Re: Treat MTHFR C677T if you have it

I listened to a podcast by Dr. Ruscio a few weeks ago on this topic. He came down on the side that supplementing with B vitamins can lower your homocysteine levels but that doesn't improve your cardiac risk. Here are all the references - pro and con - to using B vitamins to lower Homocysteine: PRO -...

Re: Folic Acid inhibits Amyloid-beta ....

Thank you, Philly. This might be slightly off topic but I hope someone can address these questions. I have the MTHFR mutation: MTHFR (A1298C) = C/C, which may inhibit the methylation process at roughly 60%. I've read that when you take blood tests for folate (and other B vitamins), the test will reg...

Re: 23 & me test - still worth it?

Thank you, good points. My take-away from Stavia is that you want to pace yourself in absorbing your DNA information. I prefer the pull versus push approach for data gathering in this area. It can be overwhelming, especially with results that can have a significant impact on your life. (Funny, dry e...

Re: 23 & me test - still worth it?

Stavia - good advice. My E4/E4 status came as a shock to me because I didn't realize that my functional med doctor had included them in his panel. The shock didn't last too long but I decided to tackle the MTHFR first, and have been working the E4/E4 over the last two weeks. I'm pretty much in the h...

Re: 23 & me test - still worth it?

Thanks Julie and George. OK, so that means you believe they still test and report out the same SNPs, they just don't interpret the more sensitive results?

23 & me test - still worth it?

Hi All, I learned my APOE4/E4 status through a test at True Health Diagnostics. The test also included the following genetic markers CYP2C19*2*3 - *1/*1 = optimal CYP2C19*17 - *1/*17 = rapid Factor V Leiden - Arg/Gln = at risk Prothrombin Mutation - G/G = optimal MTHFR (C677T) = C/C MTHFR (A1298C) =...

Re: Saturated Fat Sources

Thank you all for the warm welcome and info about SFAs. I too would also like to hear from other e4/e4s who have self experimented with plant based SFAs to see the effects on their markers. I will do a proper introductory entry later this weekend.

Saturated Fat Sources

Hi All, I'm new and have tons of questions. I'm a 48 yo man, e4/e4. I wanted to start with a basic nutrition question: do saturated fats from meats have the same effect on lipids (and other markers) as do plant based ones? I don't know if this is a simple chemistry question or a whole food/interacti...
