Re: Questions re: statistics and testing accuracy

Hi Della66, I can address some of your questions about the statistics. First, I will crib from a post I made a few months ago: The allele frequency for APOE4 is 13-15% in most Western countries depending on the population (ranging from 21.5% in Finland to 8.3% in Italy). Allele frequency means what ...

Re: epsilon 33, 34, 44 - whatever- what difference does it make????

My second alarm was it sounds like I will find out about apoe4s with 23andme, but not 2s or 3s. Is that correct? Would I be better off doing this some other way? My unused, unregistered kit is here beside me. I was planning to do it about now. I was actually searching for information about whether ...

Re: Sex differences and APOE4

Earlier this year there was a publication ( https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaneurology/article-abstract/2649260 ) that received a lot of press. That study indicates the effect of apoE4 on women vs. men developing Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is stronger between 55-70, and the effect of apoE4 ...

Re: fish oil and ApoE 4's

My LDL has been raised since starting DHA a couple of years ago. I am currently taking two Carlson Labs Super DHA Mineral Supplement Softgels, 500 mg. With my last NMR, Total Cholesterol was 231, LDL-C was 141, LDL-P was 1144, and smLDL-P was <90. This is about 30 points higher for total cholesterol...

Re: Methylene Blue Phase 3 failed?

"This paper reports the primary and secondary outcomes at 24 weeks and a post hoc exploratory analysis at 50 weeks after the first extension of treatment." I am not sure I understand what this means. The trial was blinded and placebo controlled for 2 years. What does the "post hoc&quo...

Re: RE: Re: From Huntington treatment to AD treatement?

what have you decided to do Harrison? I'm not quite ready to take methylene blue or homotaurine based on the evidence so far. There will be additional clinical trials for both, and both might have bioavailability problems that the LMTX formulation or ALZ-801 prodrug is attempting to solve. If both ...

Re: From Huntington treatment to AD treatement?

Here are some very well known AD experts commenting on the LMTX trial: http://www.sciencemediacentre.org/expert-reaction-to-lmtx-drug-for-mild-alzheimers-disease/ For the most part, I find their comments reasonable and their call for a new monotherapy trial to be fair. I only found one of the commen...

Re: From Huntington treatment to AD treatement?

I can't find specifics, but I think it was initially trialed as a control against some promising Pharma years ago. It was considered a big joke at the time; the control outperforming the actual drug. Hi Julie, I believe you are thinking of a different clinical trial where the placebo outperformed t...

Re: From Huntington treatment to AD treatement?

I don't think the anti-sense oligonucleotide is selective for apoE4 (and that level of specificity might be hard to achieve). I think they are going with the idea that ApoE4 + Abeta = not good, and if you lower apoE (not necessarily getting rid of all of it), you will decrease plaque formation. The ...

Re: Obesity Found to Increase Risk of Dementia

Thanks Deborah, this is a really nice study. The 2015 study caused quite a stir when it basically suggested the more obese you are, the less your risk for AD. This new study confirms what people have been saying for years, mid-life obesity is associated with AD, and late-life underweight is associat...
