Re: Simple changes support thread
Orangeblossom, We (my wife may post eventually) are fans of the 16:8 fasting. The main benefit that I see is that many of the breakfast foods were high carb and any late evening eating was junk. I would be happy if there is some additional metabolic benefit but it is hard to be sure. We are doing at...

Zinc : Serum vs RBC
Sorry if this has been discussed. I searched. RBC zinc testing is much more expensive. I got the idea that it was better but I can't recall the source. Anyway this is from the Mayo Clinic: Since there is no demonstrable benefit to the red blood cell testing, Mayo Medical Laboratories strongly recomm...

Re: APOE mismatch Ancestry vs 23andMe
Thanks for the link Tincup. NF52, I think that the 23 and Me results are right but may appear to be high to Promethease because of selection. Anyway I am asking them to provide number and compare to 23 and Me overall results. From your article "And particularly savvy consumers can download thei...

Re: APOE mismatch Ancestry vs 23andMe
Thanks all. Julie: The underlying report for the snps matched the E4 report for 23 and Me. I looked at the raw data report. It is all consistent with Promethease. Anna: I'll ask Promethease. I was wondering if the excess E4 is due to a higher risk group taking the test compared to the general popula...

APOE mismatch Ancestry vs 23andMe
Asking for my wife. She did Ancestry.com for genealogy. After much thought we ran it through Promethease. Result: rs429358 = tt (that is 3/3) but rs4420638=gg further genotyping was suggested this finding may serve as a proxy for APO E4 So she did a 23andMe. Result APOE 4/4 (rs429358 = cc ) Promethe...

Re: Hello all, newbie here
Hi NF52, although I didn't get the email yet I logged in . No variant detected at rs429358. I will look into exporting my results for further analysis of other genes. I have learned a lot from folks at this website and I think it is one of the best support/advocacy organizations around. You should a...

Re: Hello all, newbie here
23 and Me is finally saying that they are in the process of "Computation and Report Generation." The little green progress marker seems to have been moving very slowly. I have been doing my best to adopt healthy lifestyle measures but may want to make more drastic changes especially with m...

Re: Is skipping breakfast bad for you?
Of course breakfast is important, I have it everyday about noon. I have been following time restricted feeding for a year or so but more seriously in 2018. Combining the 16-18 hour fasts with more emphasis on cutting carbs I am down 10 lbs in the past 2 months with A1c of 5.0 vs 5.6. I know that the...

I wasn't aware of the stroke results of ablation until I saw the NEJM RCT earlier this month. That trial was limited to NYHA II and above.

Re: Researchers Reverse Alzheimer's in Mouse Models
Fascinating. Thanks for putting this in context. I had read speculation that early trials had a diluted patient population due to likely inclusion of non-AD cases resulting in reduced statistical power.
