Re: Dr. Rhonda: Get some DHA in phospholipid form

There is a Nordic Naturals product labeled "Omega 3 Phospholipids":

That seems like a good bet to me, and I take it, for what it's worth, but I'm not a health care professional by any means.

Dr. Rhonda: Get some DHA in phospholipid form

Dr. Rhonda Patrick has an impressive new paper. The takeaway is that APOE4s aren't as able to get DHA where it needs to go unless the DHA is in phospholipid form. This explains, she says, why most studies of fish oil supplements indicate no benefit, yet fish in the diet does show benefit. Seems very...

Re: Associations of protein and fiber with Amyloid-β

It's nice to see some pro-protein research results! I was kind of disappointed with Valter Longo's book. I think he is more biased against animal products than the evidence justifies. He advocates eating low protein when you're young and then boosting it when you're older, maybe it was over 70. I we...

Re: Exercise, muscles, mTOR, IGF-1, brain health, and cancer

I'm biased. I do Crossfit and believe I have gotten great benefit from it. Someone named "Camron" gives a pretty thorough takedown review on Amazon. In short, whenever Gundry cites the literature, it's misleading. For example, rather than cite a refereed article in a decent journal, he'll ...

Re: https://alzheimer-prevention.com/

I have been reading several research papers out of the lab of Ai-Ling Lin, notably including the one that Dr. Green has discussed, in which rapamycin treatment reverses some problems (reduced blood flow within the brain, reduced glucose metabolism in the brain, and compromised blood-brain barrier) t...

Re: Ashwagandha, Curcumin and Other Amyloid Interfering Supplements

Thanks to Harrison for the tip to the Gary Small controversy. A blogger gives a seemingly intelligent discussion of it at the link below. Anyway despite the possible promotional aspect, this seems like a good study and a useful result. http://neurocritic.blogspot.com/2015/04/fda-says-no-to-marketing...

Re: Ashwagandha, Curcumin and Other Amyloid Interfering Supplements

I haven't caught up with this full thread yet, but the paper that Julie G just posted seems impressive. It's it's double blind / placebo controlled -- the gold standard! It achieves statistical significance despite having only about 20 people each in the control group and the intervention group. Tha...

Re: One more statistic question

The link below, referenced in another thread, claims that at age 75, the incidence of any form of dementia is 6% if no APOE4 11% if 1 copy of APOE4 18% if 2 copies of APOE4 https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/DementiaRisk So at age 75, even if you are homozygous APOE4, that website claims there is an 82% ...

Re: Rapamycin rescues E4 mice

Thanks for that masterful explanation of the dosing, Dr. Green. Now here is something else that I hope to understand. The book "Spring Chicken" by Bill Gifford has the following passage: "That [the anti-aging results that rapamycin showed in mice] was a pretty good sign that rapamycin...
