Re: Simvastatin and the ApoE4 Allele
For me, I think the benefits outweigh the risks too. But, I just can't tolerate the muscle pain. I do get some benefit with micro doses. I take 5 mg Atorvastatin twice a week but need to take about every 4th week off as the muscle pain becomes intolerable enough that I am reluctant to exercise. But...

Re: Another negative lipid profile trend
Jim, after trying three statins and two different doses, I finally settled on the same statin (SV) and the same dose (lowest 10mg) as my 3/4 mother has tolerated for decades. Should you have any close relatives who are on statins, ask them their experiences. Higher doses or potency statins halved my...

Re: O.N.E. multivitamin Pure Encapsulations
Like Susan, I've been taking O.N.E. for several years now. I like their vitamin B formulation,Co-Q, Zinc 25mg and eye vitamins. Of course, to lower my Hcy, I take space out taking more vitamin B during the day. Since I've been on a once a day vitamin for decades, I tend to avoid multivitamins that I...

Re: HDL Too High?
SGW, my HDL is now up to 118, but the particle count and size seems to point towards protective HDL. You might want to consider a lp(a) test as my test runs double normal, but there are preliminary mice studies that super-high HDLs might interfere with the lp(a) tests, skewing the test high. Do othe...

Re: Vision Improvement!
Congrats ! I had a similar experience with my eyes dramatically improving, something I attributed to the drop in my homocysteine, antioxidant vitamins, etc... I no longer need glasses to drive.

PBW, I didn't see your LDL-C which I was going to check if the LDL-P was concordant with a moderately high LDL-P. My LDL-C was only 110, but my LDL-P was 1784, reflecting another risk factor of discordance. Judging on you high total cholesterol, despite our both having very high HDLs, I suspect you ...

Re: Another personal loss to AD
Brian, your mother is likely to feel so grateful to have you during this grieving process starting with her sister's decline. You described it so aptly as "paralyzing" to recognize a loved one's lapses.

antimatter, I didn't see mentioned in this article, but Craig Venter is an admittedly 3/4. who upon this discovery started on simvastatin.

Re: Test results for sex hormones
Great to have the scope since my endometrium was misinterpreted by one GYN as thickened, only to be a polyp excised during the scope. I had intermittent bleeding, now none. Generally with only 0.025 estradiol patch, you only need 100mg Prometrium daily or 200mg for half the month. My Gyn thought I c...

Re: Serotonin, Depression and SSRI Antidepressants
I just finished reading Lost Connections , which gave me insights on how antidepressants have been marketed and prescribed, instead of reflecting on root causes. It's been ingrained that depression is low serotonin, etc, hence these pills restore the balance. According to my genetic reports, I am pr...
