Going to new primary care doc: is it reasonable to ask for advanced lipids?
Apologies if this is the wrong section for this question or if it's been covered before. Later this week I have an appointment for a physical with a new primary care doctor assigned to me through my Obamacare (Kaiser) insurance. (I'm between jobs now so no longer have my previous insurance.) Besides...

Re: Rebecca Katz of the Healthy Mind Cookbook on podcast
I liked that Chris Kresser/ Dr. Hyman interview as well! I also just really appreciate Kresser's uber-calm personality and attitude and find listening to him very relaxing, so I tend to usually listen to his latest podcast unless it happens to be on a topic I have zero interest in. I am a bit of a p...

Rebecca Katz of the Healthy Mind Cookbook on podcast
I really enjoyed this recent podcast which included Rebecca Katz of the Healthy Mind Cookbook (which I love!): http://tns.commonweal.org/podcasts/akil-palanisamy/#.V1tRhVdlnVo The actual subject of the interview is Dr. Akil Palanisamy and his new book, the Paleovedic Diet, but Rebecca helps to inter...

Re: Considerations when testing/evaluating copper:zinc
Circular, I would love more info about this too! Just yesterday I got back some lab tests after approximately 9 months of supplements and food/water recommendations to reduce a high serum copper level per the Walsh protocol. Last August, my serum copper was 134 ug/dL, which according to the Walsh wo...

Re: Genetic genealogy raw data and Alzheimer's research ...
J11, your musings remind me of the recent 23 and Me commercial with a cute youngish couple, recounting how they talked about gene-testing on their first date, how the guy even bought the gal a test as a thoughtful little courtship gift if I recall correctly, etc. But what happens if there's bad news...

Re: New study examining the effect of APOE-ε4 knowledge
I spoke with Dr. Zallen last week and it was great. For privacy I took the call in the parking lot of one of my favorite open space hiking spots, then afterwards went for a long hike, mulling over what I had said and what she had said. Her kindness and compassion are palpable over the phone. I joked...

Re: New Bredesen Interview
Judihook, thanks again for posting the link. I just listened to the interview and it was really great. Other people may be more familiar with Dr. Bredesen's theories, but for me this was a great introduction. Plus, I feel increased hope knowing such a gifted guy is on the case for us!

Re: Greetings and thanks from Ruth, 4/4
Thanks, Stavia and Tiramisu. Tiramisu, I haven't mentioned the testing and special supplements I've been doing to the Ob-gyn I've visited for check-ups over the years. I haven't visited a doctor besides her for years. I guess after trying conventional medical treatment for depression years ago and f...
