Re: Primavera Pasta (4 Servings)

Yum! I want researchers to say: "No, no -- we were wrong about grains! Eat more pasta!" As it is now, I've given up grains almost entirely. But I need to start getting more creative about substitutions. According to my dietary criteria (which are a bit unusual), root veggies are OK. ...

Determining right level of alcohol consumption

(Continued from thread in Support.) I agree with all the sentiments expressed, which might seem odd, since they're partially mutually contradictory :) ). Skibike, I'm with you here -- I've said it many times already, I'm here to live this life with quality not quantity. -- but I think quantity is re...

Re: Best type of exercise for ε4s

I'm still logging 3 miles daily, but not competitively. I go at a pace that feels good. Intuitively, I know this is better for me. I've also decided to go easy, and also because of an intuition of sorts. But I'd love to get some solid scientific answers. I mostly trust my intuition, but not entirel...

Best type of exercise for ε4s

Thanks for the Michaelson links, G. I KNEW I had seen him before. HE changed forever the way in which I exercise. He hasn't stopped me; I'm just focused on what feels good/nurturing. I no longer push myself; God knows the damage years of Boot Camp did  Damage, or benefit. Do we know? Michael...

Re: Risk Calculator for Cholesterol Appears Flawed

I got a 10-year risk of 1.6%, and lifetime risk of 5.0%. That's probably very accurate. But I don't believe in N's of 1, as you know.

The tedium of teetotalism (or teetotalitarianism)

I finally left the house yesterday (to do something other than be inserted into an MRI tube). The occasion was a dinner party with six close friends. All are typical Scandinavian drinkers. I'd decided several weeks ago that the balance of evidence pointed towards complete abstention from alcohol as ...

Re: E4 interaction with a High Carb Diet

Thanks Julie! Have you, or has anyone, read the full paper? The abstract doesn't contain a "methods" section, so we don't whether the diets were isocaloric. This means -- I am not going to stop making this point, sorry! :) -- that we can't tell from the abstract whether it was dietary cons...

I've become such a CR Society / Michael Rae fan that on any topic related to aging, supplements, or diet, I first check the CR Society archives, putting in the subject matter as a search term, and author Michael Rae: http://arc.crsociety.org/search.php One post I get is: http://arc.crsociety.org/rea...

Re: APOE amyloid precursor interaction

some confounding observations http://www.alzforum.org/new/detail.asp?id=3477 There are a lot of confounding factors here. For me, the take home message is: "With so much conflicting data, this paper suggests the field does not have a final answer," [Zlokovic] concluded. But this area of r...
