Re: Experimental drug targeting Alzheimer's disease shows anti-aging effects

Seems like there hasn't been a lot of momentum on J147 since I first read about it back around 2011. Maybe funding issues...who knows. But I'll definitely be following any news regarding the human trials. Thanks for the post, Gene..had forgotten about this one and it is pretty intriguing!

Re: Phase 3 studies of tramiprosate in the subgroup of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients with APOE4/4 genotype.

If you look at the previous studies that were referenced, it didn't show much of an effect. But then they looked at APOe4 and BINGO, a positive effect. I wonder how many other drugs out there suffered a similar fate and were abandoned but may show a response for APOe4's. Taking it further, maybe th...

GenePoole, thanks for sharing this link/info! I saw Teezer's post as well and looked into it a bit. The fact that they got the results they did in the 4/4 subgroup of mild to moderate AD patients is really, really interesting to me. Makes you wonder... if our population could access this compound ea...

Re: Alzheon Announces Efficacy Outcomes

I like GOOD news, Teezer :D . Might we get very similar effects with taurine supplementation? From what I've been able to find (link below), Homotaurine (a synthetic organic compound, also called tramiprosate, which is basically taurine but with an extra carbon) was studied in a large 2007 clinical...

Re: I've About Had It Up to *HERE* with This Bloody Gene

Great reminder, Stavia! And since we're on the subject , I could use a little advice. Since I found out a couple of years ago that I was a 4/4, I sometimes find myself feeling a bit blue. I'd recently lost my Mom along with some other life stressors that we all experience sooner or later, really. Bu...

Re: Aerobic exercise from midlife prevents age related changes...but maybe not for us???

After reading Julie's post late last night, I was reminded of an article I read awhile back published in 2014: Exercise, APOE Genotype, and the Evolution of the Human Lifespan . Many of you may have already seen this. If not, certainly there has been lots of discussion here about why lifestyle chang...

Re: Pumping iron could ward off dementia

Great post, GenePoole! Didn't see that they looked at ApoE, but believe from what I've read that our population typically does benefit from lifestyle improvements. So...more emphasis on weight training for me based on this clip: ...the study's chief investigator, said the research demonstrates the p...

Re: PLOS ONE Study (10/2/15)

Fascinating, Lucy...but, unfortunately, not really actionable :? . We still don't know what causes the AB. Response to a virus, fungus, toxin (via BBB permeability,) neural death via hypometabolism, etc.??? We all know E4 carriers who failed to have a positive response in anti-amyloid trails...but ...
