Re: Alternating polyphenol supplements rather than combining

Hi Julie. I increased my consumption of tea, berries, and swapped diet soda for coffee. I occasionally eat dried seaweed - I try to convince myself it tastes good. Nothing too unusual. I did take tumeric supplements and resveratrol for short times, then studies came out casting doubt on both. I'd be...

Re: The Dynamic Brain Conference in LA this Summer

I'm arriving late the night before and will be counting on regular rounds of coffee and tea, followed by samples of Gundry's Reds and Kona Red juice to get through the morning.

I'll also be taking notes. Happy to share notes with those attending different sessions.

Re: Alternating polyphenol supplements rather than combining

Awesome polyphenol info. Here is a 60 sec version: Phenols are molecules with a benzene ring and one or more -OH groups. The rings tend to absorb UV light and can make good "sunscreens". The -OH groups can be oxidized - oxygen, heat, and light tend to turn them into =O groups. The reaction...

I'll be there for the three days. Really looking forward to it, and meeting folks.

Re: Gundry's Vital Reds

Yep. There are thousands of (poly)phenols, and conjugated versions of each. All have different bioavailabilities. Many influence gut bacteria, some boost plasma anti-oxidant levels, a few get to the brain. (Yea, green tea phenols!) Some inhibit AB aggregation in test tubes (for whatever that is wort...

My institution doesn't subscribe to this journal. Sorry. I can get the article and summarize but it will take a few days.

Re: Kelp

That species is rich in phlorotannins, phenolics with known and/or suspected health benefits. Some of us are investigating them further. Enjoy!

Re: Gundry Soda

Whoa. A Diet Coke a day is my vice. I've tried cutting back and drinking more coffee and tea, with some success. I'm going to try this. Embarrassed to say that it never occurred to me that it would contain a significant amount of resveratrol. Thanks.

Re: Gundry's Vital Reds

Don't know Dr Gundry or the websites. But I can say that the list of plant phenols is pretty comprehensive - the service might just be in putting all these together in one package. I wonder what the state of the phenolics are in the product - they do tend to oxidize and polymerize during extraction,...

Re: If you could only choose one supplement to support mitochondria ...

Well, I cheated. Exercise isn't really a supplement. I just like to think about healthy mitochondria to get me through the last mile on my run ;) For full disclosure: I followed the resveratrol story closely and took it for a short time. I spend some time learning how to make grape plants produce mo...
