statins - different approaches for different phases of life?
Can we stand one more question on statins? I'm specifically interested in the question for those at mid-life, without MCI symptoms. I've read a ton - synthesizing it has given me a headache. I'm wondering how people balance the genetic risks of CVD and dementia with or without statins. It'd be great...

Re: Anyone else doing a low saturated fat Ketogenic diet?
I started with 12 hour overnight fasts, most but not all days, over the past year. And slowly eliminated excess sugars. Went to 14 hour over night fasts for a while. I usually found it easy, with periods of feeling really clear-headed - didn't expect this, even though that's what everyone says. Oddl...

"I also do cold thermoadaptation - 20 minute or more daily baths in 49 deg F (9.4 C) water."
Tincup, you are one serious dude. I mean, the multi-day fasting is pretty impressive. But, 49 degrees? wow.

Re: Anyone else doing a low saturated fat Ketogenic diet?
Hi kc. I'm really glad you posted this. After phasing in other parts of the program I started a keto-type diet one week ago too! I actually feel surprisingly good. I did not think the change would be so clear. I have not found it to be very hard either. And I have the same questions. I really can't ...

Re: Rapamycin rescues E4 mice
My first thought: If one of the big pharma companies would make a slight modification to the chemical structure, claim it improved something like it's oral availability, and got a patent they'd barge right through the red tape towards a profitable drug at top speed.

Re: The Optimism Thread - good news, successes
After a year or two of trying to find a Bredesen-informed functional medicine doctor and being frustrated, I recently found a practice 20 minutes from my house where there are five doctors who have taken the training. Found them here on the site - so thanks! Although it probably won't help my mom at...

The Optimism Thread - good news, successes
I thought it could be nice to have a place to share good news and small successes. Some days it'd be really nice to read happy, encouraging stuff - health improvements, good days, new discoveries. If we keep them short-ish then when things are challenging we can read a bunch of optimistic posts.

Re: Curcumin degrades into... vanilla? And that Vanillin provides the actual health benefits?
Hi. thanks for sharing! I scanned the paper - it is interesting. Two things I noticed. (1) they observed the aggregation of insulin protein into amyloid (not AB protein into amyloid) in test tubes and measured this using Thioflavin T and Congo Red, a standard but general lab method and (2) vanillin ...

Re: New Member thanks to 23and me (Apoe 3/4, Celiac)
Welcome. Sorry to hear about your dad. In my case it's my mom, but otherwise a similar story. I'm 46 and was on a statin. That's a complicated issue, with lots of people on both sides. One thing I found interesting is that about half of statins cross into the brain, the other half don't. The lists a...
