Re: Analysis of European mitochondrial haplogroups with Alzheimer disease risk
Rep, I think you answered your own question: "How can we explain the previous findings? The strict maternal inheritance of mammalian mtDNA and the associated lack of intermolecular recombination renders mtDNA genetic association studies particularly vulnerable to a population stratification eff...

AB4M, I have those dang histamine issues too. I finally cut canned fish out of my diet - I was eating Wild Planet sardines and Crown Prince salmon with bones and skin. Those seemed to be worse than ... wait for it ... flying in flash frozen salmon! I eat it fewer times a week due to the cost, but it...

Re: Alzheimer's Disease Is Type 3 Diabetes–Evidence Reviewed
Nice. This is why I figured they were calling it "Type III D". It's also why I haven't felt confident that having good post-prandial BG measurements is enough to conclude there's no glucose metabolism impairment in my brain. But like you say, if all the other cofactors are healthy we have ...

Re: A new understanding of Alzheimer’s
The part that was new to me wasn't the mitochondrial involvement but the notion that impaired neurons up regulate their energy intake and thus rob healthy neurons of the energy they need, so both camps thereby head downhill. The Science Friday piece is a good synopsis to send menopausal women. Scare...

Re: Excellent set of slides
Hmmm, looks good. Wish I could have listened to the talk and I might take in more :-) One thing that stands out, if I skimmed it right, is that suppressing inflammation may undesirably suppress beneficial neuromodulation being performed by the immune system, and modifying immune function may have di...

Re: "Leaky Blood-Brain Barrier a Harbinger of Alzheimer's?"
I think lectins in foods are associated with leaky intestinal barrier, so maybe also BBB once they're in the bloodstream? This is one of my big problems with low animal protein, higher plant protein diets, at least for me. The plant proteins seem invariably to contain lectins: beans and legumes and ...

"Leaky Blood-Brain Barrier a Harbinger of Alzheimer's?"
Webinar and slides now online.
I noted that in Dr. Bredesen's recent talks he recommended Cyrex Assays. They have one for the BBB. Anyone know what it costs?
