Re: Questions for Dr. Robert Mahley

Question for Dr. Mahley or Dr. Huang:

How far away are they from a clinical trial with their apoE structure correctors?

Re: Studies Confirm Brain Plaque Can Help Predict Alzheimer’s

Thank you for the responses. The relative level of controversy probably depends on the audience. Anybody who posted on the Alzforum page that Gilgamesh linked would probably not be inclined to agree with me. I am somewhat skeptical of the Decode data in general (not just AD, but also schizophrenia) ...

Re: Studies Confirm Brain Plaque Can Help Predict Alzheimer’s

You initially had me at a loss, as you are the first person to ask me to elaborate. Thanks for asking. It has forced me to think things through a little more and might lead to some interesting discussion. We know that certain autosomal dominant mutations (APP/PS1) in the amyloid pathway lead...

Re: Studies Confirm Brain Plaque Can Help Predict Alzheimer’s

So, ApoE4 "accelerates amyloid accumulation," but having amyloid accumulation doesn't necessarily mean that you'd have AD to go along with it. This is precisely the case. In general, amyloid accumulation is poorly predictive of cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease. This is why, at the...

Re: my uncle is being helped and showing progress..

To save the trouble of watching the video, here is the regimen from the video/blog post (http://onlyhalfabrain.blogspot.com/2012/05/alzheimersxxx.html). It is interesting to note the overlap with some of what is reported in the Dr. Bredesen's MUSES Lab protocol from their (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.go...

Re: Ignored work of Dr. Allen Roses at Duke?

Thanks for the Welcome, Julie. It really makes me shake my head when 90% or so of Alzheimer's research continues to be based on gene mutations that are in 5% of patients. With the failures of the Amyloid-based treatments, I think the focus on APOE will continue to grow. As you undoubtedly know, ther...

Re: Ignored work of Dr. Allen Roses at Duke?

Just stumbled upon this site and feel I can add some insight here. Allen Roses' lab at Duke discovered the link between apoE4 and Alzheimer's disease in 1993. In an amazing bit of hypocrisy, the Alzheimer's field acknowledge the clear link between apoE4 and AD, and promptly ignored it. To this day, ...
