Re: Surgery/Hospitalization Tips for E4s
Hugs to my sisters facing surgery! I'm reminded of the recent thread I stated on Lymph Drainage Therapy. There's probably more in that thread than you need to focus on with so much on your minds. Just to say that this practice is being used by some before and after surgery to help facilitate moveme...

Re: Move Over, Appy4. AB Has a New Master.
Yep, MTHFR just can't be read any other way in my mind, either..... ;) AG here Interestingly, my Dad, who was by far the earliest onset (around 70), is AA. Mom, who didn't show real symptoms until mid 80s, is AG. Does make me wonder about the potentially protective role of the plaques, at least for ...

Re: Surgery/Hospitalization Tips for E4s
Quick update: Spent almost 3 hours at the surgeon's office yesterday. Meeting with surgeon was quite satisfying. Turns out, her mother has Alzheimer's, and the surgeon herself is already taking some supplements to protect her own cognitive health. (We didn't talk about whether she's an E4, but that ...

Re: Surgery/Hospitalization Tips for E4s
Stavia - Thank you. Yes, good advice. Make a decision and then don't look back. (And don't let the stress take over.) :) But I am still hoping that I can do both - have surgery, and avoid a General. Julie - Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I read and printed out both of those articles for my discuss...

Re: Surgery/Hospitalization Tips for E4s
Just got off the phone with the Anesthesiologist in the pre-admission clinic. Not good news. Not good at all. Because my surgery will be done laproscopically, General Anesthesia is required. I know, it sounds backward, but the need to fill my abdomen with gas is the reason. There have been some stud...

Re: Surgery/Hospitalization Tips for E4s
Getting ready for surgery in a week and a half, and now prepping for my first "conversation" with the pre-surgery folks tomorrow. Was planning to push for the use of propofol, based on this thread. But then I found this: http://eurekamag.com/research/012/994/012994331.php "Molecular u...

Re: 36 mother of 4 young children. Petrified
Hi 3/4, I am also 3/4, and the mother of a nine year old. There is lots of Alzheimer's in my family, so my 3/4 status didn't take me completely by surprise like it did for you. (In fact, the main reason I did the 23andMe testing was to find out my APOE e4 status.) Scary and stressful? Yes, of course...

Re: Translator of Short to Long Term Memory! Um, Is this a cure for AD?
Wow! This is a fascinating article. Thanks so much for posting it. If I understand it right, the investigators (who are engineers) looked at long-term memory formation from the perspective of electrical signalling. They then devised a formula to explain the steps in the signalling process that get a...

Re: Data dive unearths a treasure trove for E4s
Okay, so I am thoroughly confused! Here are my results: rs1917011 (A or C) CC rs2159766 (A or C) AA rs12701070 (A or G) AA rs6972352 (C or T) CC I think I understand the last 2 (AA lower risk, CC higher risk). But the first 2 are showing different letter options than the ones Julie posted. Does anyo...

Re: WOW Discovery Brain/Immune Connection Vessels
This really brings up a question for people like me who have impairments to our lymph systems (in my case, as a consequence of breast cancer surgery). My lymph system gets backed up pretty easily (from overuse, elevation, vibration...) and doesn't respond to my own attempts to encourage drainage - I...
