Re: Shock news from 23and me.
I was taught that evolution was survival of the fittest, which begs the question, what am I doing here? My genes should have been eliminated thousands of years ago.

Re: Shock news from 23and me.
I can`t figure out how one person (me) can be predisposed to so many diseases. My ancestors really sucked!

Re: Genetic Engineering and unknown consequences
It has just occurred to me how genetic engineering will affect society and healthcare in the future. I think that cleaning up the human genome will do more for public health than sanitation, vaccines and antibiotics combined.

Shock news from 23and me.
Iv`e just had a new report from 23and me. Apparently I have a 22 percent risk of type 2 diabetes on top of all the other diseases that I`m predisposed to. It seems that alzheimers, age related macular degeneration and coeliac disease weren`t enough, Mother nature decided to dump something else on me...

Re: APOE4, a dilemma choice of nature, cancer survival vs Alzheimer's
this is good news, but to be frank, if I was forced to choose between one disease or another, I`m much more scared of alzheimers than cancer.

If this is true, then how come you never hear of them developing dementia, even the oldest ones in captivity. Their brains apparently don`t shrink with age either, but our...

apoe4 blocking neurogeneration?
Iv`e read that one of the reasons that apoe4 causes alzheimers is that apoe4 blocks regeneration of nerve cells in the brain. If so, why would this be? surely there`s no evolutionary advantage to this. Is there a way to overcome this disadvantage and promote neurogeneration despite having the apoe4 ...

general anasthesia.
I`m facing the prospect of having to have an operation under general anaesthetic, & I`m very concerned about the risks because of my age and apoe4 status. The doctors don`t want to use a local because the outcome might not be as good if I`m awake during the procedure. Has anyone here had a gener...
